How about as a compromise having ANY night movement cause automatic disruption? ...even for units marching on roads at night. Perhaps another house rule could restrict night marches to major Pike routes only? I've played a lot of games where I've made big night movements because it was the only way ...

Have taken an already modified version of the historical 3 day Gettysburg and have further tweaked it. :? Some have complained in the past that the large Union superiority in numbers makes things difficult for the Reb player in the long run. I've removed the ENTIRE Union VI Corps. Almost 15,000 Unio...

Yeah, I've long wished we could have something to represent physical fatigue for our men. You can start marching Infantry along a road at just under 3 mph on turn #1 and still have them going at the end of the day having marched 40+ miles with no effect on them at all. Unfortunate limitation of the ...

Thanks a lot. Makes a nice change to play with noise instead of music ...without having silence as the alternative.

I'll have to find a .wav file of cricket's chirping for the night turns !

Are these files still available?

I'd like to try background sounds to have a rest from music.

The Overland campaign was a battle of attrition, that's how Grant fought it. It is what it is... Grant did NOT fight the Overland campaign as a battle of attrition. He may well have been aware of the balance of forces more than any previous Union commander had been and attrition may well have prove...

The basic building block of the civil war armies was the Brigade, constructed from Regiments. The theoretical establishment of these formations was very similar on both sides throughout the war. The single main factor was manpower effecting both sides ability to field and maintain forces in the fiel...

Well to answer my own question, you must be playing one of the versions of "To Cold Harbor" but correct me if I am wrong. I'm curious to know what happened to the other bridgehead, at Hanovertown, and if you pressed forward and then got pushed back to the cul-de-sac? I would be pleased to...

Maybe a more relevant question would have been which optional rules were selected -as some of those can lead to mass routs (in all of the grand tactical scale series). Pretty much all options except those listed above. Painful if any game has ever been won or lost because of an optional rule being ...

Jim, out of curiosity, in what mode (turn- or phase-based) are you playing this contest and with what optional rules? If you are in a turn-based mode, do you have the Optional Melee Resolution activated? This is a Turn based game. Either mode favours offence(?) and turn based favours it heavily. OK...

Maybe you need to get in touch with that great general you have inside of you that you keep mentioning and fight back a little. Er, steady on. I don't think I've once made any claim about being a "great general" ...let alone mentioning it repeatedly. And for that matter I hope I'm...

Right, if you are going to moan (and I seem to be a lone voice of complaint here) then try to support your opinions with evidence: The Union Command Reports are pretty abysmal. My worst game ever? no ...not by a long shot. But I get the feeling that any "command" by me is basically so much...

I'd agree that a 3 versus 3 is the way to go. I think it's the best possible gaming experience you can have playing one of these scenarios. Any bigger and you risk things becoming very boogged down by slow file exchanges. Any smaller and things can be a bit to "easy" as far as team firctio...
