Well, we tried our best. But honestly we couldn't think of everything or every strategy. We asked for some limited bridge building (pontoon units) or something similar but didn't get it. There was much discussion about the time it took to build entrenchments. Lots of historical research and I think ...

Any brave Rebs/Yankees care to play a Mule Shoe scenario or Po River or Harris Farm? All are Spotsylvania scenarios. Or "Strike them a blow" at North Anna? I'll play either side.

Once the Yanks are in the trenches, I agree with Jim, it's still not over by a long shot. The Rebs can hold fast in the woods and have enough resources to build a strong defense. Hancock/Meade have to keep up the pressure and bring the artillery up as fast as possible. And someone has to wake up Bur...

I have to agree that the advantage of the column in assaulting entrenchments is speed and maneuver. The columns can converge on the point of attack and avoid some of the defensive fire. The melee can occur in the same turn. Changing into line formations, moving to the point of attack, and initiating...

Assault columns should be allowed in Overland as long as they are being used to assault entrenchments (trenches). Why thank you, sir. We did try to balance the numerical advantage of the Union forces with scenarios that featured smaller battles where the Rebels are not overmatched and even have an advantage. I play Overland almost exclusively ... but I do have a bias.

I just finished the novel "The Black Flower" by Howard Bahr published in 1960. The action is centered around the Battle of Franklin, TN in November 1864. Its a very good "inside your head" account of men facing battle. I won't give away the plot but there is a some romance mixed ...
