http://www.unioneaglesonline.com/UNIONARMY/images/AotSimages/RNoftzMemoriam.gif I have been informed by his family of the passing this past July of Major General Robert Noftz, Commander of the Third ("Cast Iron") Division, VI Corps, Union Army of the Shenandoah and son of the late Celaman...

Kennon, you are completely correct in how you interpret the role of cavalry and the reduction of the God's Eye. And you were absolutely correct in identifying the key factor to make it all work: "the change would require cavalry to be broken up into smaller units." Such a change would cert...

Another inducement to the unreliability of enemy unit identification or an unknown ("?") out beyond a certain LOS distance would be to give that sighting a 50-50 chance of being displayed. Given any scenario in which the player is aware of some of the historical OOB, he would be provided w...

Glad to see some basic game talking on this forum again! And I know that I rattled off a number of themes to open this discussion, but I think that we can stick with the Line-of-Sight range for the moment. I, for one, totally agree that something needs to be done about the 70-hex range, both for it...

Do the JTS/HPS games effectively capture the reality of cavalry tactics and operations as they existed in the ACW? Operationally the cavalry performs, I think, in a somewhat realistic manner when performing their recon and anti-recon roles. Their movement factor allows them to traverse the field wit...

Good question, Christian! I've often wondered about that myself. (I've also come to believe that most CSA leader casualties are the result of drunkeness. )

I'll bet that the type of leader casualty result is completely random in each case, after a one-time check for the leader loss.

Gentlemen, I salute your expertise in PDT modifications and manipulations, as well as your philosophy concerning "work-arounds" as opposed to game engine changes. However, I don't believe that the majority of club members have the skill or inclination to dabble around in PDT files! Most of...

Hoping I didn't miss this point in other postings on this thread, but Civil War armies did not fight hour after hour non-stop, which is pretty much a norm in these games. One could identify a number of reasons why this occurs, but it no doubt depletes ammunition much quicker than might be true hist...

You were right about one thing, McOmish. You can't keep a secret when imbibed! Furthermore you tend to get all mixed up when you try to repeat things in that state. The name that I told you to keep quiet about in the Winchester Bar was "The Johnny-Be-Good Hankie-Friller Army." :P

Matrix Games is evidently getting ready to offer the soon-to-be-released Gettysburg: The Tide Turns , by Shenandoah Studios (see: http://www.matrixgames.com/products/635/details/Gettysburg:.The.Tide.Turns ). The game is advertised as an intermediate, turn based, PBEM playable product featuring "...

What "entirely different manner" are you suggesting we consider? Infantry and cavalry units already have the element of fatigue coded in their programing, the code working in each direction: accrual and replacement, specific to the unit involved . Could not such a coding be adapted and ap...

Do those supply wagons carry enough ammunition for the infantry? Or maybe the question should be, are there enough infantry ammunition wagons? Should infantry supply wagons be reloaded overnight in multiple-day scenarios? For that matter, is infantry ammunition handled as well as it might be in an e...
