Gentlemen <salute> I don't know if this has been discussed before, however this caught my eye when reading General Longstreet's account of Gettysburg from "Manassass to Appomattox": "At the opening of the fight, General Meade was with General Sickles discussing the feasibility of movi...

General Korotko <salute>

Suh, my compliments!

I personally have no problem with column melee. A recent opponent did just that after crossing a bridge against superior numbers on higher ground and behind breastworks (it failed). I then had my turn

Gentlemen <salute> I can't help but having noticed when viewing the number of visitors that there have been a fair number of guests for at least the last couple of days (16 at the time of this typing). For the guests: Contact one of the academies if you'd like to join in. Feel free to contact me at ...

I'm finding the subject extremely interesting and am learning a bit as well. First thing I've learned is that Upton's "column" wasn't really a column, it appears to have been simply a division attack on a narrower front (3 regiments wide) and more compact (4 ranks lined up immediately behi...

General Whitehead <salute> I've done a bit more searching and there is some confusion over the term "column". I came across the following description of Upton's formation: "Upton massed his sized force of roughly five thousand men in a powerful column four lines deep, with three regim...

I don't have Overland, so the scenario # does me no good lol. I am curious about how the melee would be calculated, however. Is it the standard for column, or modified due to its effectiveness in this particular fight?

The melee in column debate got me to looking and found the following on Upton's attack on the Muleshoe: http://www.civilwar.org/battlefields/spotsylvaniacourthouse/spotsylvania-history/the-unions-bloody-miscue-at.html It seems this wasn't the first time Upton had employed the tactic having used it p...

The AI's defensive fire isn't exactly a "gamey tactic", however it is frustrating at times to see units advance to contact with little or no defensive fires. I could understand fires being sproradic when at a distance, but when a unit advances to an adjacent hex it should be automatic. The...

I believe I read somewhere the leader issue is primarily to prevent replacement officers being used as throwaways since their value is practically nothing as are the benefits they provide. The replay issue has occurred for me in one instance, however I suppose you could argue that the "eye in t...

General McBride <salute>

Thank you, suh! Do you mean moving them in order to attract automated defensive fires, or simply leaving them exposed?

Gentlemen <salute> I just noticed a comment about "gamey" tactics and thought I'd solicit comments from anyone who cares to contribute on what tactics they consider "gamey" and why. I can't think of any off-hand that I find troubling, however something may come to mind as the dis...

General Martin and I decided to get a head start and agreed on optional rules just in case. Hostilities have commenced; may the best Cajun win!
