I have always been mystified by some of the ratings I see in the HPS campaign series. It seems that by 1863, troops should be seasoned, yet Gettysburg has a bundle of D's and E's for the Union.

Are the units rated by the battle or the overall war?

Very nice job Blake. I enjoyed the articles. I like Calvin and Hobbes as well. I do agree that Ty Cobb was the greatest Tiger. You might check out Harper's Weekly issues on the net. Pierre, if you want to try Vassal some time, let me know.

I just bought the board game Three Battles of Manassas. There is a Vassal Engine for the game

I have had much more difficulty playing the "what if" than the historical.

I do not what anything scrapped or deleted. I feel that the play balance of the what if scenarios can be improved.

I have played more of this game than any other and I am now convinced it it broken. Tiller allows cannon to fire on charging troops and the guns kill 4 guys (they are full strength) and they get mowed over with the troops with them breaking down than a cheap used car. Defensive fire-check Fredricksb...

What do you think of using Boardgames played in Vassal (or in real life, for that matter) to be used as official games for the club?

I find your interest in history a very positive sign. How do you plan on getting discussions going about the personalities of the Civil War? I also see some politics going on where not needed. I hope that does end. What is your take about using Vassal to play wargames and be recorded as official gam...

Sadly Blake confirms that Yankee arty sucks, Reb arty is too good, and too many damn E's in Union Army and too many A and B's in the Rebel army. The overwhelming factor is it is almost impossible to accurately simulate the Union abundance of troops with the stupidity of Union Generals. A sad but tru...
