2. If the terrain allows, put your artillery in the hex(es) behind your infantry where your artillery can offer fire support (preferably elevated terrain with excellent field of sight) but can’t be reached for melee.

This is going to be a (possibly long) series of posts that provide some tips for playing and utilizing the club (this is not a club sanctioned series of posts). These posts will be sporadic, as I may post one per day for several days in a row and also may go several days in a row without a post. The...

Don't let Gen Blackburn fool ya. He's actually about the ugliest thing in uniform that I've seen. He has trained a squirrel named Rocky to sit on his head and look like a coonskin cap, and the squirrel cracks nuts all day long and drops them down into Gen Blackburn's beard so that he has something t...

I'm old and the brain/memory was questionable even when I was younger, but that's the first I've heard of an Observer Corps. But anyway, I'm one of those that have doubts about this idea also. Even, or especially, if it was popular; who trains them if they are new, who adds them to the list/DOR and ...

I like to see the discussion and effort because sometimes a gold nugget is found. But here are my thoughts on the subject. 1. Won/loss records are important to some and not important to others. To the club, an excellent won/loss percentage means almost nothing because did they only play opponents we...

Ernie, that boils down to (my words, not yours) 'just register the game in the DOR in some form or fashion' and I don't have a problem with that. But you probably need to add the "Other" option to the DOR for Petersburg and Shenandoah in order to keep them somewhat standard. I actually reg...

For something to think about while most of us sit in isolation, there is no check in the system to make sure that maneuvers are not registered as battles. Since no one seems to really care, why don't we do away with maneuvers? There is no need in some abiding by club rules and getting half points wh...

The designers did not include separate campaign scenarios in Petersburg and Shenandoah like the others had so it is not a fault of posting to the DoR. Even if the campaign scenarios had been included in the last two releases, the same question still remains as to how the club wants us to register ca...

Actually that is a good question that we probably should have addressed more seriously as a club in years past. The last two releases (Petersburg and Shenandoah) appear to leave no choice but to register individual battles and put in remarks that it is a campaign battle. However, I think that all of...

You may have something there. Dee Dubya was always rather salty.

Although it says "Ford", if there isn't a road or trail running into it and out of it on both sides of the ford, you ain't crossing. Been a long time since I played Chancellorsville but Overland is loaded with these types of fake fords.

Gettysburg has a problem that was resolved a few years ago but has raised its head again. When arty pieces are destroyed by arty fire, the game does not always recognize it in the scoreboard (the piece disappears on the board but the number of lost arty pieces may not be advanced in the scoreboard a...
