Yes, I still live! Anyway, with a game ended, I find space on my card. Now, realize, I'm kinda slow at this point in my life for various reasons. That said, I'm lookin for a Reb for a Corinth Campaign (as I haven't done that one in a few years). Major General Gary McClellan 1st Division, XXIII Corps...

I found myself having to replace my not all that old warhorse last weekend. The deed is done, but am playing catchup a bit, so there may be delays in getting turns out.

One thing to keep in mind in all of this. It's very possible that a defending unit can win a melee and still take a morale check because of the fire taken in the turn.

#1. Yeah, the system has flaws in it, but I don't think the marginal gains would be worth the extra headache in game micromanagement. Of course, that gets into the old saw.... what is the proper balance between playability and detail, and we'll never all agree on that. Major General Gary McClellan 1...

How about something rather different, and giving units in that situation a high change of disrupting upon forward movement.

I don't know, reading this, it strikes me oddly that we're able to talk about "managing" our artillery ammunition supplies, and the like. The commanding generals on each side could pass down orders, urging the men to conserve their limited ammunition, but even so, we all know that troops in combat a...

I think one thing, is that bigger formations put more stress on the commanders in question. Both sides had a great number of mid grade officers with little or no military experience before the war. Which would be easier for that officer to command, a division of two brigades, or one of five? So, by ...

My big beef with most ACW generals, especially the Corps Levels (though it relates back to Army commanders too) is that their sense/usage of time was generally poor. Now, a fair amount of that can be attributed to staffwork, but really, the idea of urgency was lost on way too many of them. Lost Time...

Well, are you talking absolute or relative? What I mean is this. As much as we may like to celebrate the generalship of the Civil War, there really weren't any generals in the war who rated much above average when compared to the Generals of Europe or the like. Certainly no Napoleons, Marlboroughs o...

Col. Taylor, that was my understanding, Ozark has a Pea Ridge Campaign, and a Prarie Grove campaign, so either one would be fine with me.

The problem isn't the supply rules per se (though yeah, you can argue that a unit should have to fire a certain number of times before ammo can run out), but the scenario design. Ideally, there should be at least one supply wagon allocated per division, and then Corps and Army trains. The overall nu...

As memory serves, the Brandywine scenario is 48 turns, there are many ACW scenarios that are far longer. If there is a problem with the playability of Brandywine, it's not in the 5 minute turn, but in the sheer number of counters. In that case though, it's just that it's hard to use the same engine ...
