Mike, I recall seeing similar articles on the old board games in the AH General, so called best set ups and first moves. There wasn't much talk about fire in the BG games because it was all phase mode and Morale Checks were made anytime you took a SP loss while they became random in the HSP/JTS gam...

A lot of information is available on this game on Youtube, and it appears to be relatively popular. A version has been released on Steam but I have not checked it out.

Colonel Bill Smith, late of the Union army, and a personal friend for many years, passed away yesterday from complications of Lewy Body disease.

He has been unwell for a long time and is currently on the inactive list.

Don't know why this surprises you. It's what we do all the time. Both sides made mistakes at Waterloo. I think the reference to wargaming Waterloo is that Napoleon's were more serious. In fairness to Napoleon, he had no idea that Blucher would reinforce Wellington while Grouchy wouldn't reinforce him.

I think it presumptuous to declare Gettysburg the most overrated battle primarily because of all the ifs we will never know. But I think the most important result of the actual battle is that a significant portion of Lee's army would never be available to defend the South again, and that should not ...

Hi, Mark, At Vicksburg, the star attraction as far as I am concerned is the USS Cairo. As far as accommodations, there are several motels with reasonable rates close to the Vicksburg battlefield. The Shiloh area was still rural when I visited, but that was thirty years ago. Some smaller battle sites...

One limitation is that cavalry skirmishers can't see across a creek unless there is a bridge.
