One of the most interesting ways to see this battlefield is to hike it along the Appalachian Trail. The hike south from Turner's past Fox and onto Crampton Gap is quite pleasant, and you can easily do it in a day with time for stops to read all the plaques and examine all the sight lines. Take two c... |

Free determination by whom? Not the 40% who were slaves. If they'd had their say, I doubt there'd have been any majorities for secession.
But that's just reality - this is gaming.[:D]

The amount of fatigue you get back depends in part on how long it is between battles. I won a round at Corinth and the next morning began a pursuit to Davis Bridge. My men recovered some fatigue, but not all. As far as reusing captured batteries, it would increase the OOB complexity a great deal - y... |

Larry, what would a -140% modifier mean? That there's a 40% chance that your opponent's fire would bounce off your position and hit them?[:D]

I find Ozark interesting for how different it is from the other campaign titles. The terrain forces you to think in new ways (esp. the two 1862 campaigns), and you often find yourself in a fighting retreat, or pursuing one, and sometimes doing both at the same time on different parts of the map! IMO... |

A Cabinet committee, including Gen. Doug Burke, Gen. Ernie Sands, Gen. Pierre Desruisseaux and myself, have been plugging away at a system for Club elections. We were pleased to receive a couple of well-thought comments earlier, and are working on a range of topics one at a time. The current topic i... |

I've been looking forward to this one, though I was hoping it might take in the broad scope of McClellan's advance up the Peninsula.

I think Col. Mishurda has a point when the surrounded area is substantial, which is part of what I think he is describing. The defenders of Vicksburg didn't fight at 1/4 strength, though they were completely isolated. In much tighter spaces, however, I agree that the isolation rule reflects reality.... |

I find that we notice bad fortune much more often than we notice good fortune, that seems to be a basic human trait. Having reviewed my routs in my current GB match (no more than one would expect, and probably fewer), I find no particular tendency of units to direct their flight through friendly uni... |

Regarding Mike's reference to Longstreet - he was ambitious to be sure, and seemed to have a typical Virginian's disdain for the military competencies of Bragg and everyone else in the theater. Still, I'm not sure on what basis you would compare his abilities as an independent commander in a light s... |

I'm in my second marriage, this one's gonna last! Professionally, I finance affordable housing. My borrowers are from an association on nonprofits (NGOs to those overseas) who build both rental and homes for sale throughout the U.S. We think we're the best at what we do, changing people's lives and ... |

Thoughtful comments. I'll focus on the structure from CC down, both because that's what I've experienced, but also where I think we have the greatest weaknesses. I agree strongly that administrative functions should be delegated down to the DCs as much as possible. There's a temptation as CC to just... |

It's amazing how these old maps differ in important respects. I found this site while looking for maps of north central Maryland as I was playing a meeting engagement between the ANV and AoP in one of the HPS GB scenarios. The ANV attempts a march along a hard-surface turnpike from Emmitsburg toward... |

I like the wide range of victory conditions. Many of the largest battles in the ACW were draws or at most minor victories. The truly major victory was not nearly as common as when we play (witness the 1864 Overland Campaign or Sherman's maneuvering toward Atlanta). I don't think I've earned an MV if... |
