Mark: That was it. In order to see the tutorials properly you have to view them through the game engine. Looking at them in Windows XP with the Microsoft viewer makes them too small. I wonder why they did that, because I don't have my screen resolution set that high. If I did the HPS series of games...

OK, I saw the introductory video and it drew me right in. Digital Download and hard copy coming in the mail. I have just set the game up and watched the first tutorial. Man was I lost! I feel like a little lamb in a big field. BAA! BAA! BAA! I think the learning curve on this one is going to be trem...

I can't agree that all of the titles are equal. "Franklin" in my opinion is definitely a 'weak disk' and wouldn't recommend it. The 1864 campaign for the Confederates at that point is completely lost and I don't understand why it was even picked as an HPS title. The only reason I can think of was th...

Kennon: I'm wondering then if that isn't the figure to 'tinker' with. Presently capturing batteries is the easiest thing in the world. Half the time you don't even have to look at strength points - just number of counters. If the attacker has more counters than the defender, then it is likely the ba...

Kennon: Thank you for citing that "Gettysburg" example and the great bombardment on July 3rd. That example more than any other should demonstrate quite conclusively that we are getting far too many "counter battery hits" in HPS Civil War than we should. It's far worse for the confederate player admi...

I'm watching with great interest the discussion about Union Six Gun batteries versus Confederate sections. I think 'Shoeless' and 'Rich' have presented good arguments for the pluses and minuses of each system or 'way of doing things'. One thing that bothers me about the whole discussion, no matter w...

I always play multi-phase. Until single turn play is fixed up I can't see any point in playing it. But getting back to Antietam, I can pretty well be assured that I am going to lose a gun every turn. In one turn, 4 guns were blown away. Hiding the Rebel artillery isn't really an option at Antietam w...

Ok, not really. But there are some serious issues here. It was the "Antietam Woes" topic that got me interested in trying the Antietam scenario on the new HPS Antietam Disk. I loved the old Talonsoft Title even though there was not enough Confederate Artillery ammunition available, and after awhile ...

Larry: I don't even know you, as we have never been opponents on the battlefield. But I have always found your posts interesting and informative. Sure hate to see you go. Club Politics? Golly, is this thing rearing it's ugly head again? Didn't the club have a major fiasco just some years ago? In tha...

I like General Boyd's solution for the 'crew killed' problem. Knocking out one gun would simulate better I think the gradual loss of manpower as crews are picked off. It would also alert the battery commander to get the heck out of there! Charles, as a good ole Reb I sympathize with you when we have...

Dirk: I understand why the batteries were broken up, especially for the confederates where the batteries were not homogenous. I know it was difficult to make a design decision when you had a battery with one howitzer, one long range and maybe two 12 lb napoleons. So the sectional guns fixed that pro...

Kennon: Those are great suggestions and I whole heartedly support them. I don't like the idea of breaking down units any more than they are now. I don't want to move a "30th Georgia unit a & b". I didn't even like the idea of sectional guns. Now we have single guns running all over the place and pla...

Ok, thanks Rich for the information. The scenario editor is one thing, the Campaign editor is another. I can see the learning curve on the latter is going to be a much tougher.

I have to echo Mike's short but very true statement regarding the description of Jon's new game with Rich. If the key to winning tactically is in attacking, then the lesson is totally wrong. That's more of an Ancient World tactic where the attacker had an advantage in shock effect. Not so in the Civ...

I like Kennon's solution to correcting the single turn play 'opportunity fire'. I could live with it halved or quartered as long as the defender does get full defensive fire during the turn. Rich, you seem to indicate that this would halt offensives and make it harder to attack. Of course. It should...
