After 80+ turns in a 100-turn customized variant of "On to Cold Harbor" from Overland Campaign, my veterans of the Army of Northern Virginia were forced to grant U.S. Grant (Jim) a major victory. Although the score still reflected a minor victory, the Yankee forces had worn the ANV down to...

Some folks seem to have missed the point. This big scenario is historical only in that the forces avalaible to both sides at the beginning of May are accurate and reinforcements appear when they were historically available. The starting positions are historical. After the start though, this is a wid...

After 284 turns, the Confederate leadership determined that the fall of Richmond could not be prevented without great loss of life and destruction of material properties; hence, orders were issued for an immediate evacuation of the Capital. In effect, the Confederate players agreed to capitulate, de...

Weather.

If the weather is fine, then let me roll;
But if the weather turns, then the wagons should crawl - even on a pike they should be slowed

In Campaign Overland, there are several campaigns; the Historical Campaign takes you through all the major battles: Wilderness, Spotsylvania, North Anna, and Cold Harbor; the "What if" Campaign (I forget the actual name) takes you on a similar path but has many more branches and some hypot...

Personally, I get the greatest amount of fun by playing scenarios completely blind -- essentially not knowing anything beyond the big strategic picture -- not knowing the makeup of the forces involved, strengths, directions of advance, nothing more than I get from the scenario description. Unfortuna...

Well, we tried our best. But honestly we couldn't think of everything or every strategy. We asked for some limited bridge building (pontoon units) or something similar but didn't get it. There was much discussion about the time it took to build entrenchments. Lots of historical research and I think ...

Any brave Rebs/Yankees care to play a Mule Shoe scenario or Po River or Harris Farm? All are Spotsylvania scenarios. Or "Strike them a blow" at North Anna? I'll play either side.

STILL LOOKING

Once the Yanks are in the trenches, I agree with Jim, it's still not over by a long shot. The Rebs can hold fast in the woods and have enough resources to build a strong defense. Hancock/Meade have to keep up the pressure and bring the artillery up as fast as possible. And someone has to wake up Bur...
