Commander Lynn makes some interesting observations, which I will comment on. With regard to routed unit movement. Don't routed units that fail there rally check make another rout move (away from the enemy), so effectively they do get a full move each turn. Not exactly what was proposed, but in anoth...

Now I've always assunmed that Tiller has a plan to keep evoling his game engine and the suggestion of Al Amos is intriguing. When my miniature playing assoicates ask me what the games are like, I tell them it like playing the Johnny Reb rules on Geo Hex. Now it turns out that Johnny Reb does have 4 ...

Now I've probably seen the words "DISRUPTED" on the ACW units and the words "DISORDERED" on the Napoleonic units thousands of times, but it only recently hit me that there were two different terms being used. My question is whether there is any more to it then simply different terms? I know that the...

I'll philosophize some on the topic of houserules. As a practical matter,I don't like house rules. I usually have about 6 games in progress over 3 clubs at any one time. Too many houserules means a post it note on the terminal for each game. I currently have one Nap game in progres where the psot it...

..and now to cofuse the topic with some facts. From a booklet by Paddy Griffith, "Battle in the Civil War". A fire fight in 1864 of 400 rebs attacking 400 yanks, reasoanbly open terrain. Rebs had 30 rounds of ammo each, yanks had 50. (If accurate, I don't think the games model this very well at all)...

Why I think the idea may have a downside relative to small unit defense, in particular if they are in the woods. I just played the Armstrong Raid scenario in the HACW tourney and if we were playing with your suggested rule, I think my boys in blue would have done even better with the small unit defe...

A reasonable proposal, but I can see one fault. This would effectivley allow snall units to really slow down larger ones. I use this tactic even now, but with the proposed rule, those units would be less likely to have to take morale checks and hence less likely to rout. So I would either need fewer...

No the good guys did not win. From the after action report: On the day of battle it was a pyrrhic victory for the Army of Northern Virginia. On the morning after the battle it was clearly a major victory for the Army of Northern Virginia. Total losses for the battle were 22,157 men, including 4,339 ...

Actually I find the computer assisted miniature rules a bit of a bother. They are great at doing all the record keeping and those running it were pretty efficient. But in a game of 10-12 people the record keeper becomes the pacing item in terms of time to do a turn. I also think that dice rolling is...

I think the figures were Old Glory -- not sure. The rules were computer assisted Carnage and Glory. Which means they were playing with miniatures but all the results and record keeping were done in a PC. Sound familiar? Now a few years ago I saw some ideas for a 3D Holographic Display -- you might r...

Nice Report. I would like to support General Simms comments about recognition. I think one of the Cabinet Offiers ought to have the responsibility to create a list of people who are doing extra things to make the club function and every few months the cabinet ought to review the list and give out a ...

Although I'm getting bloodied in Armstrong's Raid, I think this is a most interesting format.

I'll take the Union Troops for C01 Iuka.

Of course another solution is not to have your units rout.

I'm sorry, this might have been a serious complaint[:)]

To anwser the question. I am 58 also a member of HMGS. I'll also cast a vote for my son, who is 30 and on a temporary leave of abscence from the historical gaming hobby - a wife, a new son, a new house, a new job, no hobby time! To opine on the graying of the Historical Gaming Hobby. There is certai...

Gentlemen: Raise your glasses to salute MG Schlueter, Commander New Jersey Volunteers, 1st Division, XIX Corps, AoS who is celebrating his 79th birthday today. Now I don't know if we have any more senior members in the club, but among the real life Civil War Generals, I believe Winfield Scott was 75...
