I will take the field at BGC Chickamauga. This is the first time I have done this so I am unsure what happens next.

i like the idea of straggler loss and recovery but regarding the issue of excessive losses and continous day long action, I feel that the penalties for excessive fatigue should be of greater influence. I have not given this all the thought it would require to make happen or even if it could, but if ...

This thread goes back to my earlier issue with Antietam. If the attacker fires combined stacks the defender will maybe have 2 units fire back. When the defneders are 100 to 200 men they just will not hit many men. It is my opinion that this tactic make simply defending a position impossible. As ever...

All three of Jeff Shaara's books are good. There is also a book that covers a Confederate soldier's story called "Jim Mundy" by Robert Fowler. Another really good book is "Unto this Hour" by Tom Wicker. It deals with 2nd Manassas. I liked Gingrich's books. There are two by Harold Coyle called "Until...

If opposing forces are adjacent to brestworks do both receive the benifit. I am playing 2nd Manassas and I entrenched in the woods along the railroad cut and the Yanks have move next to my works and I can't seem to hit anyone and I mean no one. I fired 4 Napoleons at an adjacent target and had "no e...

Yes I can see there are cavalry there. I don't know if there is infantry since I don't open up the game solo to see what the Yankees have. I also don't know what actually happened in the real battle. All I have to base any action on is what was shown to me in the opening information. Oh never mind. ...

I will throw my 2 cents in regarding the campaign info at the beginning. I am a few turns into the Cassville scenario of an Atlanta Campaign. The information given at the beginning suggested I attack the Union left with Hood's Corps on my right. I moved to set up such an attack when I observed what ...

My original post was born from frustration in getting crushed defending at Antietam. I have now been paying much more attention to the results of fire combat. Also, perhaps it has just been luck but only recently have I begun encountering opponents who "stack fire" their units. The progression of my...

After watching the progress of this thread I think much of it goes back to the original issue that was giving me problems: That being units in a stack firing combined. What prompted my first post was that in two Antietam games both my opponents would fire all the units in a stack together and thus l...

What I have seen to two resounding defeats is that when you fire guns in a stack combined you can get a hit more often than not. In both of my games stack firing, especially with infantry was a major factor, perhaps so much not in my defeats as I was out played, but in the lack of enjoyment. Over an...

I would like to comment on the Antietam game Rich and I have started. I will first say that I was totally wrong in saying that the game was unbalanced in favor of the Union. That is simply not the case. I am playing the Union and Rich is killing me. Hooker and Mansfield's attack is pretty much crush...

I do agree with Ken that defensive fire should be more effective for the reasons he stated. Obviously where this is a problem is when the offensive unit gets hit multiple times at full strenght with opportunity fire. I don't have any idea how the game engine works so sometimes the ideas I propose ar...
