I put this on the other thread. In terms of programming, would this be a reasonable optional rule addition to the game engine? In order to perform a column melee, a unit must have at least half or more MPs remaining. In other words, you must really want to use the column formation and not just tank ... |

What about this,
In order to perform a column melee, a unit must have at least half or more MPs remaining. In other words, you must really want to use the column formation and not just tank down a road and attack!

Don't worry, I wasn't going to go out and change everything right now. I was just brainstorming. And looking for opinions. As usual, no real consensus. That's one reason why engine upgrade are hard to come by.

For those of you that like to tinker with the pdt files, has anyone tired to play with a lowered FA base? The current default base is 900. What if that were reduced to say 700? Your FA percentage would increase faster and melee would be more difficult as units would be more tired. Just a thought! Ri... |

Except that your units are disrupted and must rally before a new melee. And if your units are already tired, FA will mount up.
quote:
Originally posted by D.S. The problem with reduced stacking is that with early war games (CP and CS), many regiments were larger then the 700 suggested stacking limit.

Hi, Well, I guess I forgot to give a good description of the different campaign files in the campaign notes. In Short, they should be pretty self explanatory. Campaign Shiloh (Full) - Covers all the major battle maps covered in the game. There are multiple options for each branch, beginning w... |

Hi, Unless the guns were limbered, it would be unlikely. This engine has been tried and tested for these kinds of bugs and I have never encountered one like your describing. If in fact the guns were unlimbered, it would be a bug. Rich P.S. I'm glad your enjoying Shiloh, that's my main goal. <blockqu... |

Sorry for the confusion gents, Ending the campaign at Mill Springs with a Union Major Defeat is not implying that the War is a Southern victory, just simply that the Union campaign to drive through Tennessee has ended with failure and that A.S. Johnston can now concentrate his forces to take the war... |

What concerns me about night turns, is not the combat. I believe the combat is taken care of by the extra FA and difficulty in using anything except column formations. Rather, I object to the unlimited movement. For example, it's possible to march units from miles away (think about Gettysburg), and ... |

Night movement/combat has always been a debated subject. In Shiloh, I tried to further restrict it by increasing the combat penalty and shortening the duration of night turns by making then 90 min turns instead of the usual 60 minutes. But I did go back and make variants to allow for the usual 60 mi... |

Hi Mike, The rule change is optional, but it will increase the number of disruptions and reduce enthusiasm for frontal attacks. Richard, There have been some recent changes. For example: Arty can now melee at full strength. Capture/recrew will most likely happen, but it might not happen before the next title. Also, a gradual reduction in arty strength instead of suffering a complete "crew killed" result. I haven't heard anyt... |
