I do think it is a bit unfair to heap too much criticism on the designers for the balance of this one. Historical Antietam as a game scenario MUST be seen as almost a certainty for a Union victory? The factors that combined to make the real battle such a bloody draw are simply not present in a compu...

The trouble with calculating unit strengths for historical battles, is the unreliability of the source materials. The better known battles all probably have a number of sources you can draw your figures from, but they will almost certainly clash. How to decide which one to use? they can't all be cor...

Show's you the utterly mindless bureaucracy of large institutions. Whether it be business corporations or in this case...a Government Department. At least we know that the work involved in threatening us kept one of their employee's busy in the office for a couple of days. A pity they didn't take a ...

It costs 6 movement points for Cavalry to change from column to line? But why does this amount seem to vary during the movement phase/turn? Sometimes it costs up to 11 movement points to change formation. I can't find an explanation for this in the game manual? [?] Capt. Jim Wilkes. 2nd Brigade, Cav...

I think that if you are willing to spend the full retail price to purchase even one of these games, then you earn yourself the right to be (constructively) critical of them? Just the same as for anything where you/we are the customer. I think a great deal about the game series is unsatisfactory and ...

The BEST American Civil War music that I've heard in my opinion, is the soundtrack to the film Glory. I haven't found any of those tracks for download though, so I may have to buy a copy of the cd, if it's even available.

Talonsofts BG Gettysburg didn't have any music files in the game? My old copy certainly doesn't, I don't know about newer editions or the Matrix copy. It was the first of the games and the only one not to feature music tracks as far as I know. The other four ( Shiloh, Bull Run, Antietam & Chickamaug...

I'm often frustrated by scenarios that feature lots of small Regiments on one side against a fewer number of very large Regiments on the other. 2nd Winchester in HPS Gettysburg is the best example of this I can think of. The Union are outnumbered by about 2-1 in strength but in actual units it's mor...

Any chance of a rotate map ability? Sometimes the map layout can look a bit awkward, especially as I only play in 3D. Also I really do like to be able to play with my units entering the map along it bottom edge (Just a personal preference) We used to have rotate maap in Eastern front which uses very...

If I have a unit in a hex with a wall or fence hexside (or breastwork hexside) and an enemy unit enters the neighbouring hex. Do both units benefit from the defensive modifier of the wall? Surely only the original unit is 'behind' the wall? They can't both be. Do the rules cover this situation or is...

Against my better judgement and in direct contradiction to my opinions stated on the forum recently. I seem to have got caught up in the excitememt and have gone and ordered a copy of HPS Campaign Antietam from NWS. I thought it might be lonely on the journey across the Atlantic so I orderd a copy o...

O.k. I know this will sound like sour grapes, but I'm just about ready to quit the club! I'm playing a new, quite inexperienced Reb Officer, and this Gentleman has just wrecked another Union Army on the old BG Antietam scenario...'Bloodiest morning'. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mind being well ...

We've seen a lot of discussion lately on a number of game aspects that cause a lot of...disagreement? I'd like to share with you a number of my own house rules that I use when beating up the A.I. (the only victories I get) and some things that I think might be possibilities as new optional rules? Yo...

A little off the subject, I always wondered why the French cavalry didn't do something about the guns they kept overrunning at Waterloo, only to have the gunners come out after they retreated and shoot them up some more. Couldn't they have thrown a lasso over the barrel and drag it back with them or...

Of course, in my defence, there is the consideration that each time you take fire and suffer casualties, you undergo a morale check. So my attacking units could have ended up getting disrupted. Also, I had enough movement points to get the 'offending' unit to the target hex anyway, I could have mele...
