Yes, the Matrix editions are compatible with the old TS versions. There are a couple of patches at the Matrix site. No changes in the game at all.

One Christmas a few years ago an opponent of mine was able to turn a draw into a minor victory for him on Christmas Day. I figured that was what I got for playing on XMas and I haven't done it since.
