25. If you have a unit(s) getting clobbered by artillery or small arms fire, why would you leave them there for another turn of getting clobbered unless it was absolutely necessary. If your line can be reformed further back at that spot, then maintain integrity but fall back. If you don’t have woods...

24. Be careful where you move your artillery and supply wagons. Be mindful of how they can escape if your line is overrun. Placing them with woods to their back (and no other way out) is dangerous (because of their limited mobility in woods) unless you are confident that you can delay the opponent’s...

When I open 041 Good's Farm as a single battle, this looks fine. However, I am in a campaign and we have advanced to Good's Farm which is using the 041 scenario, and Col Wm Halstead appears twice in the same hex (25,5) to start the game.

23. Marching is one of the least publicized tactics of war. Gen Forrest was correct in his assessment of getting there the fustest with the mostest. Marching isn’t always an easy movement. There can be curves so sharp that it behooves you (saves movement points) to cut across a field instead of stay...

Looking for opponent for Gettysburg 007 - the 3 day battle. All options on except for MDF, Arty Capture, and Extreme Fog of War. No house rules (if the club rules and the game engine allow it, it's good). Choose your side and I'll take the other side. Makes no difference to me if this is a battle or...

22. You may be assuming the command of an ACW defensive genius, but in many cases the real world ACW troop placements are too extended/stretched for you to use them successfully as your defensive positions in these games. Just as the commanders in the 1860s had to survey the field and make determina...

Mike, I can see how those impact casualties but I'm not sure that I understand how they would impact the decision to go every hex, or every other, or even every third hex. Could you elaborate more for me?

21. Are you going to melee ONE of your opponent’s units? If you melee with one large unit, defensive and melee fire may disrupt your attacking unit and your melee is squashed. If you melee with more than one unit that move in one stack to the melee, your chances of all of your units being disrupted ...

20. Is ammo critical for your army? The earlier that you recognize that, the better off you will be. Irritated because your infantry/artillery are firing at targets that are so far away that flies bother your opponent’s men more than your defensive fire? There is something that you can do about it. ...

19. So you’re on the roads running with an opponent trying to close in on your rear. He has to be in column to keep up and you can usually take advantage of that. Your main force can usually travel 9 (disrupted infantry), 10 (supply wagons), or 12 (infantry and artillery) hexes per turn trying to ge...

18. Along the same vein as the supply wagons previously moving in organizational sync, any organization moving multiple units one hex at a time by using the Alt key will encounter problems when they are hit by defensive fire. Any unit behind the leader that takes defensive fire will become the highl...

17. A supply wagon that highlights when you turn on Highlight Org isn’t like all of the other units. That highlighted wagon may follow your lead by holding down the Alt key and they may not. If they do, two supply wagons in a row will move around the map like any other unit does (one following the o...

16. Cavalry automatically deploy skirmishers when they are mounted. But those skirmishers aren’t very good at peeking around curves. The game will often not pick up an enemy unit while going around a curve except for those straight ahead. If you are anticipating possible enemy presence around that c...

15. We’ve looked at using scouts previously, but avoiding detection is just as important. You can tell more about where you can go unseen by opening Visible Hexes and then zooming out. Of course you only see your opponent’s units that are already visible to you, thus watching the replay each turn ca...
