As far as I know there isn't a single "true" meeting engagement on the Gettysburg title where both sides start turn #1 off the map. A great deal feature one or both sides on map and deployed which can be off-putting for the faint-hearted. Unfortunately playing with hindsight there is no wa...

The Gettysburg release is interesting as most club members are more familiar with the historical battle than any other. Nearly 300 hypothetical scenarios are provided (x2 if you add the weather versions as separate entities) and I doubt most players get anywhere near to playing all of them. The maps...

I'm actually excited at the thought of the next game being of the Valley Campaigns. If it is I see an interesting release with different advantages for both sides, though I doubt the ineptness of the Union commanders will be present with hindsight? I plan to buy it the moment it becomes available .....

I think players can choose to melee too much in their gameplay and that's it. I don't think I've ever lost a battle because my opponent meleed his way to victory. I've been very frustrated by what I feel is unecessary losses from an opponent meleeing too freely but I don't think there is any real ga...

Most of the Scenarios were designed to be playable for both sides , I hope that they were at least basically checked before release? All would have been designed then under the old school with the 70 Hex visibility and normal movement costs. Introducing the Weather rules after the event can, to me, ...

2nd Bull Run for me too. It's always been my favourite wargaming battle since the BG version. It's a definite "might have been" ...but for both sides I suppose.

I feat the mistakes might be a bit hard to watch but a view from above might explain the timing and some of the odd decisions?

I find the Weather rules can intoduce a difficult aspect: Often the change to required movement point costs can leave units with an "unusable" 2, 3 or even 4 MP's each turn, that would normally be expended on movement of one sort or another, but are now made insufficient under the new cost...

I rarely use the weather feature and have only ever done so at the request of an opponent. It does add some very necessary unpredictability by removing the default 70 Hex visibilty, but those 12 MP's do not go far at all when bad weather effects mobility. Some scenarios seem to be slowed right down ...

Ah, now this is good and well worth a look. I know because a long time ago I set about doing the exact same thing, but gave up as I wasn't too sure about arrival times for the "extra" Union units. I'm glad someone felt motivated enough to see it through to completion. It just goes to show ...

Representing physical fatigue has long been a personal wish of mine. Not sure if it might be difficult to implement within the existing game engine though? The larger maps especially would benefit from players having to juggle between time and distance more than they currently do. I guess these are ...

This is difficult to answer fairly, one players opinion might be the total opposite of anothers with neither being right or wrong. But, if I were forced to choose between the two... Chickamauga offers three very well known historical battles (Perryville, Mufreesboro and Chickamauga in Oct & Dec ...

Thank-you to all you gentlemen for your kind words of support, concern and encouragement recently.

I was finally released home today (Friday 16th December) to continue my recovery. I hope that it may yet prove a full and speedy one.

Spent all weekend in Hospital (3rd visit in as many weeks) and my Internet connection decides to bug-out on me the middle of last week and confound the situation. To any of my opponents that I've missed returning files or answering messages from: I haven't forgotten you and will hopefully be able to...

For example: In a current Chancellorsville game the gun losses are reaching biblical proportions as my opponent and I attempt to skittle down each others guns in an exchange that is 100% game and 0% realistic. The trouble is that gun kills are basically the only means of reducing Artillery threat to...

Will we still be playing these games in 5 years time? or 10, even 20 years time? No matter how great the rise of gaming technology, the one big obstacle in the way of any future gaming advances is that PBEM is still the "best" arena for human versus human because it allows turn playing to ...
