Stephen Sears wrote a biography entitled "George MacClellan; the Young Napoleon." It's ok. Sears is a good author.

Looks interesting. I'll keep it in mind . . . Have you ever read "Billy Yank" or "Johnny Reb"? Along the same lines as your book, but more individual, and much more contemporary.

Freeman was definitely writing from a southern viewpoint, but he was blinded by always putting the sun in his face. On the other hand, he did entertain a lot of folks, didn't he?

My opinion of Wiley Sword couldn't be higher. The man just flat out knows how to write.

Newt Gingrich has at least one big advantage over Jeff Shaara: he's a lot better writer. I do not know how much of that is due to Gingrich's co-author, but it's true nonetheless.

Along with many others, I'm still waiting for the Shenandoah battles, both 1862 and 1864. Hopefully, the final disk is a Shenandoah disk?

Longstreet knew Grant good enough to stand up with him at the latter's wedding.

I agree that----of the battles cited----Grant was probably right in where he put censure . . . but i disagree about what you say of Gettysburg. I feel Lee was right in accepting blame for the failure there.
