Admittedly a detail I haven't paid close attention to, but how are officer casualties -- kills wounded, captures - treated in campaign games with regard to what happens if the officer's unit is to show up in a subseqent scenario? If officers do comeback, does there basic leadership/command rating ge...

I have a very simple proposal for the blitzkrieg problem that I think solves most situations without all the complications of the embedded melee house rule, in particular MP games. The proposal is if you enter a hex with a unit that has meleed you stop further movemnent Doesn't cover every possible ...

Movement stops if entering hex with a unit that has meleed. Inrease probability of disruption/routing from artilery fire. Brigade Combat Effectiveness -- probably requires a funadamental engine change, but definitely on my wish list <s>Voluntary arty spiking (no VPs or reuse)</s> Lt Gen Bob Breen Co...

Everything effects play balance and I defy anyone to provide a "comprehensive" answer as to how to achieve "balance" in these games. For me the ideal situation is where there are lots of variables to consider, with three important considerations. The impact of "dice rolling" -- good or bad - should ...

This a topic in which individual opinions are unlikely to change and their can be an endless stream of comments. I will offer a couple of my own. I disagree with the basic premise. I haven't played a lot of HPS ACW sceanrios and I do share some of the frustrations expressed, but I still think the de...

<i>Was there any type of fire bonus modifier for brigades that stayed together and fought together, say within so many hexes of each regiment and their BG to maintain the modifier? I played a Battle of Gettysburg miniatures game at Fort Monmouth using a similar process from Rick Barber's Summer Storm Gettysburg Boardgame (Clash of Arms). I forget the details, but he rolls the effectiveness calculations up to Divisions and Corps and has criteria for them as well as Brigades. Ba...

Some observations on recent posts. Indeed in the Nap games it is common for a unit to have higher casualties and still win the melee. I haven't been able to get a precise explanation, but believe there is actually a 2 step process in the Nap engine -- one which determines casualties and one which de...

Here's an idea that can be used right away as a house rule and if successful included in some future game engine update. To melee with a unit an officer must be stacked with the unit(s) and part of the the melee. This should reduce the number of melees and also change some of the risk-reward calcula...

Actually one of my pet peeves is that major victories are all too common in these games -- often from either side in the same scenario. I would like to see victory conditions that make it harder to achieve, and would have no problem if "Draws" were the most likely out come. In fact a scenario that h...

I also suspect the victory conditions are established for the scenario assuming the forces are at full strength. I'm currently in game 5 of a campaign and we are at Corinth and both forces started at around 50% -- I assume if we get to Davis Bridge it will more likely be down to 35-40% --- so if you...

I'm still on the fence regarding the campaign format. I've played 3 in this club, about a dozen in total. I like the need to play for the duration and not just a single battle. I like the idea of losses carrying forward, but since we all tend to cause a lot of casualties, that can significantly redu...

There are two miniature table top gaming activities in the upcoming weeks with an ACW theme that those nearby Central Pennsyslvania might find of interest. You can either play or just visit and see what is going on. In both cases the best source for more info is the Historical Miniature Gaming Socie...
