Doesn’t the current melee mechanics allow limbered artillery a loss of some guns and the retreat of the remaining guns as a result of a melee loss. Couldn’t that process be transferred to unlimbered artillery.

I think the idea has merit, in a 20 minute turn a lot can happen, certainly there were cases where a battery limbered and retreated before or as the enemy were upon them.
