His son wrote a book collecting his correspondance. It is called "LIFE AND LETTERS OF GENERAL MEADE" I am reading about the decision to withhold McDowells troops. Currently historians support that move. Here is what the General had to say: "Camp near Alexandria, April 4, 1862. Everyth...

Thanks for the many excellent responses. Do read the fictional account of Gettysburg-I also loved the novels. In some ways, a game victory is the object of the hobby. However, I think we should consider the actual results of the history as well. If Lee wins a victory near Cashtown, but is still forc...

It is a simple one. I am playing a talented General from across the big pond and he is winning a major victory in a Gettysburg meeting engagement. I am nearing the end of day 2, and beginnging to crush his right flank where he set it up at Cashtown. I hold Gettysburg as well, as he has also massed t...

An interesting story form Ambrose Bierce: There is a class of events which by their very nature, and despite any intrinsic interest that they may possess, are foredoomed to oblivion. They are merged in the general story of those greater events of which they were a part, as the thunder of a billow br...

After my experience with trench warfare in the Atlanta game, I don't think I would want to be the Union player in this one.

That would be a great game. Not sure if they do it.

I could see them doing a Total War involving the Mexican War, the Civil War, The Indian Wars and the Spanish American War. Maybe that would be enough. You could also include The Texas War of Independence.

Some excellent points. My main suggestion is that we need a "self-preservation" rule. I have rarely seen it in computer military sims, either in my hobby life or professional life. I have seen the defensive force (or OPFOR) fight to the last man, which I call the Alamo Defense. In real lif...
