Yes, I guess that might be it. I am a bit puzzled now though because that one uses the Fredericksburg OOB with Burnside in command, default command rating of 'D' & 'E' :( whereas the Chancellorsville OOB has Hooker in command with a default 'C' & 'B' :) I just thought there must be a big cam...

An opponent responded to a Chancellorsville challenge with a request to play a big multi-day scenario of the Chancellorsville battle using the "BIG" map that includes the town of Fredericksburg in the east and stretches all the way to "road to Germanna ford" in the west. I've scr...

And just foud this while I was rooting round trying to uncover the difference between a Battalion and a Regiment: BATTALION and REGIMENT. Battalions and regiments were formed by organizing companies together. In the volunteers (Union and Confederate), 10 companies would be organized together into a ...

To throw in my knowledge of this subject: Battalion:- Has it's origins in the late 16th Century from the French "Bataillon" which was derived from the Italian "Battaglione" (meaning Battle Squadron). These were from the Latin "Battalia" (Battle) ...in turn from Latin &q...

Have spotted a few of these across the various titles. A repeat of the 8th New York at First Bull Run on the Antietam disk springs to mind. I know there are scenarios on Antietam where entire Reb Brigades are on the map twice! I guess the Historical OOB's used as reference when creating the games so...

Imagine sides A & B are both trying to get to hex xxx,xxx Side A marches at 12 hexes per turn and suffers stragglers and loss of cohesion due to the forced pace. Side B marches at 8 - 10 hexes per turn and retains better cohesion and suffers less straggling but has the downside of moving slower....

The first picture was an oddity. The second was so bizarre that I had to immediately go and search for "Hanging an Elephant". Such is the nature of the Internet, I feel no better for having increased my knowledge. It's right up there with the "Hartlepool Monkey".

I hear that the rate of attrition for Elephant drivers is appalling. I hope they give them very good ear defenders?

Shane should have shot Van Heflin in the back, sold the boy into slavery and got straight to work on Jean Arthur. All that trouble over a scrubby patch of land! Jean Arthur was 52 when Shane was filmed ...10 years older than Van Heflin and 13 years older than Alan Ladd. That must have been almost sh...

Go back and read the manual and do your best to understand exactly what the various factors will allow and prohibit: You need to forget trying to fight-the-battle and learn to play-the-game. I think that the best players in the club look at the map and see a mathematical puzzle rather than a militar...

Including N B Forrest is the one I find to be an odd choice. I think he'd have gone at things in a very different way if he had been landed with a larger command responsibility. I don't think the Reb command ever realised the possibilities of his potential. I think he'd have quickly put his energies...

I haven't played an ACW game in months ...and maybe only a couple or so this year. The "Fun" versus "Frustration" finally tipped over into the latter and I decided to take a break from the ACW arena. Goodness knows what my record of results looks like, I don't think I've ever che...

WW2 was not a GOOD war but one that could have been avoided. Had the British and French gotten off their butts and invaded Germany much of the suffering would not have happened. Can we avoid the use of inflammatory language, especially when used to review history with the benefit of hindsight? It's...

So what happens if we do away with ZoC effects altogether and not have it in games?! How did the concept of ZoC orginate for wargaiming and is it designed to model a military factor or a gaming one? I'm wondering what happens if we make units that move lose their ZoC effects for that turn ...and may...
