Army of Tennessee
January 2023 Newsletter

Gentlemen,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to y’all. I hope everyone is well rested and ready to pursue the enemy back into Yankeedom. We have the Stonewall at Gettysburg Tournament currently underway, and I hope ole’ Jack is driving the enemy beyond the heights. Good luck in your games and keep an eye out for the upcoming tournament for 2023.

Official Business
1.) Musters: We are beginning the monthly musters via the DoR. Corps commanders, please reach out to your subordinates and ensure they muster by the 15th of the month.
2.) Muster Award: Last year, 2nd Corps succeeded in having the best muster rate. Congratulations to these fine soldiers! A donation has been made in your honor to the American Battlefield Trust!
3.) Upcoming reorganization: First, please watch this to understand the direction the CSA side is embarking on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgUmQBD6dto. For those who are too busy, essentially we will be dividing our army into two corps. In the coming weeks, expect to hear more news regarding the organization.
4.) Happy Hour: Our next happy hour will be Monday 30 January. This month’s discussion will be an open forum. Feel free to email questions in advance and I can prepare a discussion ahead of time; otherwise, feel free to ask while attending.

Grant (History Channel, available to stream on Amazon Prime with the History Channel package): I’m not 100% a fan of Ron Chernow’s biography of Grant for a variety of reasons, but this mini series does a decent job of laying out Grant’s life. There are some minor inaccuracies and the live-action sequences are pretty cheesey but it is entertaining enough.
Recommended reading:
John Bell Hood: The Rise, Fall, and Resurrection of a Confederate General (https://www.amazon.com/John-Bell-Hood-R ... 1611213304): I’ve just started reading this book, but so far it has been an interesting critique of the historiography surrounding Gen Hood. I must admit that is has changed my mind a bit on the general’s reputation and has left me with a yearning to try out the Campaign Franklin series. A good read.

As always, happy hunting and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
