Keep in mind, Tom, that you don't have to occupy the uncrewed or spiked battery continuously, only on the turn that the game ends, to get the points. So definitely don't waste men sitting around doing nothing, if you've got the guns behind your lines, you can return to them as the battle nears its close.

Thanks for that...it clears up my obvious other misunderstanding. It seems to me that based upon the amount of discussion of this spking issue and long before I was wasting all this time on it, together with how confusing it seems to be...meaning the who, why, what and when, and how many points under this and that circumstance...THAT some kind of consolidated treatment of it would be included in the manual...or as General Laub suggested...a War College article on it. Not sure I am the one to write it but that sure would be useful. If I felt I understood it all properly I would indeed enjoy writing such an article. Perhaps I will get all the posts printed out, sort them and try to abstract the points, claims and rulings cited.
