Cool I will definitely have to get that one as it is based on my home town. I took my dogs on a walk Monday with my mother in the Military Park and on a whim we followed Hovey's Approach toward Fort Garrott
Image
(We went up the depression on the left it is alot worse than it looks our dogs got to the top and went over to a clump of trees to lie in the shade. One of them would not walk anymore and we had only done two miles so far.)
Trust me the Union soldiers had to be dying from simple exhaustion and it is not even that far but it is straight downhill and than straight up through that loess soil of Vicksburg and it is definitely cooler in October than May, June, or July in Mississippi.

We really have to stop this Western bias... [:D]

Vicksburg could be interesting. Lord knows the Confederates had chances. But can we have the option of abandoning the city and taking our army east to join with Johnson?

Yes, it's always great to get another HPS Civil War game, but I agree maybe the pendulum needs to start swinging back towards the east. At least as far as Chattanooga and Atlanta. So far the west has Corinth, Vicksburg, Ozark, and Franklin. The east has Gettysburg and the Peninsula...with Peninsula not having much of a campaign engine to it (i.e. it's not really about the Peninsula campaign, but about the battle for Richmond..no battles for Yorktown, Williamsburg etc).

Time for HPS Shennandoah Valley, Manassas, and the Campaign of 1864... and others in the east! [:)]

But...also thanks to HPS for HPS Vicksburg...I'll be buying it.[:D]

General Lynn,

Ah, my good general, but everyone knows the war was actually lost (or won, depending on your point of view) in the west. All Robert E. Lee and the ANV were doing was protecting Richmond [:D] !

Seriously, I, too, wonder how widespread the campaign options will be for this. If I remember correctly, Grant tried seven different options to attack or bypass the Vicksburg citadel. Of course, I would be surprised if these game engines modelled the digging of canals -- which would eliminate several of Grant's options -- but an option of moving overland from the north, or attacking along the Chickasaw Bluffs, in addition to the (final) historical route of marching south in Louisiana and crossing south of the city before swinging back north would really be something.

My guess is this campaign may begin with Grant already on the eastern bank below Vicksburg, with the options of either moving directly north or swinging northeast to take Jackson before finally turning west to seal off the city (the historical approach).

Also, Lee Hook

I believe Lee started this project at least 5 years ago. So a lot of time has gone into this project.

BTW, Lee is brother to Tom Hook (Music composer and performer)

Details on the HPS site look great. Sounds like there will be a lot of different options for the campaign to take.

So when can we start purchasing? How about the 5-for-3 deal? Count me in if it is still good and someone wants to setup a group.
