To all my opponents and other interested parties.<b> My home still does not have power.</b> There was a huge ice storm in the NE and we lost power yesterday at about 1:00 pm and it is not back yet. I am sending this while at work at our public library where I am a computer clerk. Posting this for my opponents and hope that they check in. I will also email you via the email link in your profiles. I can't remotely connect to my home computer from here but <b>I must say that this forum and the ability to easily use away from home is a really nice and convenient function and even more so to report something like this. Just one more reason that this club is so organized.</b>

Right now the estimate by the power company is restoration to our section of the city ON THURSDAY MORNING. Two more nights sleeping in the cold...not fun. Hoping that they are being conservative in their estimate of how long it will take. When we lose the heat in the winter I am always reminded of those poor soldiers at the Bulge and the Chosin reservoir.[:(] And we just had a cold house, not foxholes to sleep in. I think I will shop for a natural gas stove or natural gas generator tonight [:)]

Thank you very much.

Hey Tommy,

Good Luck and try and stay warm. Well be getting some of that cold weather down here in NC. The last few days were in the 70's, but tonight it will drop down into the 30's and a high of only 40 tomorrow[8D]. Again hope everything works out for you.

Respectfully,

Col. Ciampa,

The storm reached New England? I thought it was just the midwest! Here in Missouri the wife and I have been gazing at the white sheet of ice that just last week was a green lawn (and we think there is a driveway somewhere underneath!).

Anyway, at least we do still have power -- many others in the state do not.

Also, you can reach your opponents through their profiles here, but you can also go to the Department of Records and get their official club addresses. Look under 'Reports', then the Rosters (one for USA and a different one for CSA).

I would like to point out one pertinent fact[;)] Saratoga Springs, New York is in the Northeast but is NOT in New England.[:p] Its' west of Vermont, Massachusetts, and CT.[:o)] Sort of the Yankees/Red Sox Line formed by their boundaries.[}:)]

On the serious side northern New York and the northern portion of New England got the same ice storm while us southerners( Connecticut) just got rain.

Thanks Larry...well I would think they have more experience up here than further south as this is, unfortunately, is a much too frequent experience up here in the land of the Yankee. This time, however, it looks like we will not have to spend a second night sleeping in the cold. See my just posted message on "How I spent my afternoon enjoying the heat." Sorry Phil...I always do that. I tend to include us in New England for some reason otherwise we must stand alone as just New Yaawkers. And by my reckonin' I live only a stone's throw, so to speak, from NE's borders. We must be New England "wannabees" because the wife and I regularly drive to all the summer theaters near us from Arlington, VT to Williamtown, Ma to Sharon Ct. That must get us some points. I don't know where Gale's Ferry is, I will have to look it up on the map, but if ever you travel here for the World Class thoroughbred horse races in August, do give me a buzz and we can throw away some of our money at the track together.[:)]

Glad you didn't loose the power. Too bad about the rest of the state...same here, we still have something like 35,000 still out in just Saratoga County...going into the third day. Stay warm. Oh..and thanks for the tip about checking the OOB for details. Actually I forgot about that and went to the "game register" to find Jan Welleman's email as I am playing him in a game and for some reason he couldn't be found on the "member search" of the M-D Tavern. I thought that was strange. I thought every member had to be registered for the forum. Not under W and there is no J !!! But there is always another way to skin the cat...thanks for that reminder.

Col. Ciampa,

There is no requirement that members sign up at the Mason-Dixon Tavern. Some are only interested in playing games and don't care about the fellowship of the tavern. At least one I know of had technical difficulties getting into the tavern.

Also, many who do sign up use fictitious login names. (This is not at all encouraged, as it makes it very difficult to help them when they forget what password they used and even the login name they selected -- which happens far too often.)

Anyway, do stay warm. This will all be over in a couple of months. Shortly after that we'll all be complaining about how hot it is [:D] !)

Hey Col. Tommy,

Gales Ferry is just down the road from Groton,CT. use to live in Groton when I worked at the Sub base's power plant. They have a really nice Catholic Church there. If ya'll Yankee's are fraid then you need to go to church [:D]

Thanks for that. I don't know where I got the idea that one had to join. the M-D. Is that true of the individual unit's taverns? Like the Woodin Injun? Maybe that is what I am confused by because I thought one had to register because of the muster procedure. I was probably confusing that with the joint M-D Tavern. In any event I wasn't being critical, though I don't think it was taken that way. I was just surprised is all because the Tavern is such a social and easy way to communicate about various things, presumably for the most part gaming, not simply banter and gossip. In the case of this string it was just a way for me to let my opponents know that I might be out of commission. I panicked not knowing how long I would be away, and then it deteriorated in the tangents of weather, the denfinition of New England, horses in the wife's bay of the garage...so sorry if this is abuse of a sort. The irony is, however, that I needn't have worried because except for one person of the five that I am currently playing, the rest don't turn moves around faster than about one a week! So I was probably worried about nothing. Had the storm and power outage lasted that long, playing a game turn would have been my very last worry. [:)]

Thank you Sir.

Col. Ciampa,

Individual armies may have that requirement for their members, though I haven't heard of it. When I was a division commander, I much preferred sending a personal email -- it was an excuse for at least a minimum contact with my brigade commanders each month, if we hadn't had any other reason to be in touch. Each army on both sides has its own way of conducting muster.

Sounds like your power is back on. Glad to hear it.

And I agree wholeheartedly about the comradeship shared here in the Tavern. That's half the fun of the club (well, almost). Of course, we do have to put up with Bullwinkle and his sidekick ... [;)] !

My apology Sir! It would appear that I may have chipped my teeth. It was not my intention for a simple and well-intended compliment of the convenience of communication in this forum on so many levels and methods (perhaps too convenient)to cause the need for a separate discussion. I see now that I should not have raised the question, or more accurately, my personal misunderstanding of having or not having to register, for the discussion group in this venue. Please be assured that in the future I will try to be more discreet and think before posting and if I have a question about rules or protocol I will send a message to my CO.

Thank you.
