Post subject: Vicksburg Campaign Error

Gents, I've been playing a pbem Vicksburg campaign and after two battles, we received an error going into the 3rd strategic phase (listed below). Has anyone seen this one before in a campaign game?? We have been trouble shooting it on different computers, have tried replaying turns before the strategic phase, changing strategic options, etc, but it continues to pop up so we are stymied.

Error reading: C:\Program Files\HPS Simulations\Campaign Vicksburg\!!!VicksburgBoydvsRon.btc

Thanks for any comments.

If you are playing the 'campaign game' then only the .cpf file matters. Any files ending .btc, bto, .xxx .yyy can be deleted for both players. the game will recreate the missing files. So both buys delete these files and then try the it again. Just don't delete
the .cpf file. [;)]

Thanks for the info Phil. Just one note. This gets us past the .btc error, but units seem to be recharged to full strength because the data from previous battles has been lost.

Does the problem itself (the .btc error) sound like a bug, or a corrupted file. I've never encountered it before in other campaigns.

This sounds to me like a problem reading the .btc file. The error reading the file could be a corrupted file or a bad spot on the hard drive making the program unable to read the file. Although not in the HPS games I have seen similar errors when trying to copy or read files and it often is caused by bad sectors on the disk.

If you still have the original file set that was having the error ZIP up all three files and send them to HPS so they can tell you the cause. You can delete the btc and bto files but as you saw these are the files that carry forward the loses in the campaign.

Thanks for all the great advice guys. The files have been sent to HPS for review.
