Gentlemen:

I have received the sad news of the death of Captain Weber, one of my boys of the Cavalry Division.
Last year left provisionally his Brigade, but unfortunately he could not have returned with us.
His Father says to me:
..."Captain Weber was a proud member of the Confederacy and spoke well of his brethren in the 1st Corp to his dying day. My son lived well, fought bravely and did his best to bring honor to his comrades in arms".

I ask for a prayer for him.

Regards:

Lt. General A. de Meré
1st Corps A.N.V.
C.S.A.

A. de Meré

It feels like we've not had a member pass in awhile. It's certainly not something any of us want to become accustomed to. I'll remember he and his family in my prayers.

It almost seems to be like every now and then Lee's quote from Gettysburg (the Movie), "We do however expect the occasional salute to a fallen comrade or an empty chair....." I recall him coming into or back to the ANV when I was CO a while back. I dread this news when it comes, as we may not know everyone directly per say, but you feel after doing this for so many years like these guys/gals here are sort of a part of your life, especially when you work with people sometimes on a daily basis and all of the communications and casual conversations that go on.

Never had the privilige of meeting the gentlemen but please offer his family my condolences.

Always sad to lose a club member for any reason but since his father contacted Gen Mere I would assume he was not one of our more senior members in age which makes it even sadder.

The passing of Captain Weber is a sad event indeed. While also being in the 1st Corp, I admit I never made the attempt to know Captain Weber. I am sorry for that.

Hence brings up two thoughts. The first thought go's out to each yank and reb and that is, get to know each other, especially your brothers within your own Corps. DOES SEE YA RING A BELL....My second thought is directed to the Forum Directors and that is, why not establish a MEMORIAL to fallen comrades. Nothing more than a Link showing name, army, rank, term of life, hometown, perhaps points.....LET THEM LIVE......

Just some thoughts.....
