Post subject: | Award Ceremony and Change of Command |
In a ceremony held in Washington, DC, General Jeff Bangma relieved General Ralph Peterson as Commander, Eastern Theater. During the ceremony, General Peterson was awarded the ACWGC Legion of Merit, the highest award available within the Club. General Peterson is a founding member, and the first Army Commander of the Army of the Potomac - the Clubs oldest Union Army. His tenure as Eastern Theater commander goes back many years, longer than I've been in the Club, in fact. Ralph's steadfast devotion and service in leadership over such a lengthy period of time has been a supreme example for the entire Club, not just the Union Army. Please join me in thanking Ralph for his service! Rest assured, General Peterson is not going anywhere. You'll still find him gaming and leading his brigade - 1st Brigade, 1st Division, I Corps, Army of the Potomac. That's the Iron Brigade, if you didn't know... General Bangma was awarded the Outstanding Service Medal for his leadership of the Army of the Potomac from January of 2006 to Present. Let's wish him well in his new role! Lt General Mark Oakford will be relieving General Jeff Bangma as Commander of the Army of the Potomac. Look for details on the Army of the Potomac changes in the near future. Regards, General Jeff Laub Union Chief of the Army ACWGC Cabinet Member http://www.geocities.com/laubster22/UnionHQ/ |

General Peterson: Sir I do not know you personally but looking at your biography made me come to attention. Your service to the ACWGC is historic one that few of us will equal. Congratulations on your award and stop by the AoC Tavern sometime for some fine rations and libation. Congratulations to all. Gen Dave Danner Army Commander Army of the Cumberland |

It is an honor to be following in the footsteps of "Gen Pete." He was always available to answer a question or two for me in my tenure as AoP Commander. I'll probably be asking a few more now! A toast to General Ralph Peterson, gentlemen. Many thanks to him and his co-founding members who have made this a place for us to gather, wargame and make friends. Cheers Gen Pete! Gen Peterson, thanks for all you've done over the years. That's a right pretty medal they gave you even if I say so myself. Gen Bangma, looks like you're the cream of the crop. The first of my cadets to make full general and now the first one to become my superior. Well done. Gen. Ken Miller Army of the Shenandoah |

<font face="Book Antiqua"><font size="4"><font color="limegreen">Gentlemen Sirs! <salute> That thar medal is sure prrety, bet is will make a fine target on the battlefield! Seriously, it does my heart good to see such Award of Honors passed out to those individuals who are most deserving! Without the likes of folks like Gen Ralph Peterson most of us wouldn't know what the ACWGC is all about. Through their efforts we have reaped the benefits of this fine gaming Club! Oh my, General Jeff Bangma moving up to second in command, what is this Club coming too? Actually Jeff and I have been in battle for the past 6 months and have enjoyed getting to know him a little. He is a great guy, skilled gamer and most importantly, cares about others and the direction of the Club. Just a side note. The newly appointed coach of our local minor league Hockey Team (Everett SilverTips) is from Jeff's current hometown and he has spent countless hours assisting him in his hockey camps. A small world! Congratulations to Mark Oakford for assuming command of the glorious Army of the Potomac. Big shoes to fill but Mark has put in his time too in the Club. I would say that the Union command structure is remaining strong at the top as the new guys get their chance. All the very best to ya'll!
