Post subject:  CSA Sharpshooters

Gentlemen:

I am researching for CSA Units that served as Sharpshooters. I have found some like the following:

BG Mich Jenkins - Palmetto Sharpshooters
Col. Robert H. Anderson - 1st Battalion Georgia Sharpshooters
Maj. James Burnet - 1st Texas Sharpshooters (Burnet's Sharpshooters)
Maj William Field Rapley - 12th Askansas Battalion (Rapley's Sharpshooters)

But what I would like to know, who was the BEST over all Commander. Who did the best Job or should I say Who killed the Most Yanks?

I am sure that there are other Sharpshooters Units out there...

and I would like to heard from ALL of you - that right Yanks, you are included as to What Leader from the South did his job by striking fear into the enemy?

Please post your comments here....

Thanks

Hey now, shooting Yanks isn't a good thing!

My vote is the Palmetto boys and their early exploits...

Good topic.

Here is where I would like HPS to open up and allow small modifications to PDT to improve the Sharpshooters firepower.

They are usually small units of the best shooters, so their power is not in Melee or close range, but the ability to be deadly with firepower at range.

In the scope of the game it would be to increase at range the firepower of these units.

It was great fun in TS-BG and allowed players to use these troops to their real advantage.

Just one more tweak that can make the games all that much better.

I just finished the book Bonemash refers to. It's a good book. It speaks of a Major Wooten of the CSA of striking fear in the hearts of the Yanks. He was with the 18th North Carolina - Lane's brigade sharpshooters. He wasn't feared for killing though, he was very good at getting yankee prisoners from the picket line. They called it "Seine hauling".
Major Wooten was so feared that yankee pickets often inquired across lines to see whether Major Wooten was about and on other occasions Union officers asked to be introduced to him during truces.
