John Dragan and I will drive, from his home in Ohio, to Gettysburg on Friday, to attend the Remembrance Day Ceremonies of the Gettysburg Address. We will be joined by Robert Weir, a fellow Marylander, and multi-player Rebel opponent. The Illumination of the graves event will be on the 17th to attract more attendees, but the cemetery service will be just as moving.

I will be heavily armed to prevent any flank attack while in close proximity to these wonderful friends of mine and will send out skirmishers and keep extra ammo and a knife on hand in case of a surprise attack. Derald Riggs wanted to come too but his son will be home from West Point on Friday. This is his second year at the Point.

The Rebels are expected to be starved from their journey so no donut or honey bun will be safe for miles around as well as other food stuffs and dry goods alike. My friends will be in enemy territory for three days but the provost has given me assurance that they will not be arrested unless they engage in public drunkenness, steal chickens, or commit some other crime of passion.

Our bivouac will be at the Red Carpet Inn, in Gettysburg. These accommodations will unaccustomed to these Rebels as they seem to generally prefer to lurk in barns and corn cribs.

Some things transcend games played with a computer. A celebration of those who gave all they had is one of them.

Just watch out for those Rebel Sharpshooters, they can take you out at 900 yds.

A friend of mine and fellow member of the FNPG has attended this event several times and has enjoyed the parade and ceremonies. He has told me the illumination ceremony is quite moving and very beautiful you can see a picture of it here http://www.friendsofgettysburg.org/luminaria.htm

One of these days I'll have to go.
