Day one of a 3 day battle at HPS Gettysburg, I race a Battery of 3" Rifled and another of Napoleons to Little Roundtop as the afternoon get's late. I want guns up on the summit as it offers good vantage of the general area. But hang on, HPS Gettysburg map has got rough hexes on top of Little Roundtop and guns can't go there! [:(!]

Some of the other scenario's open with guns already emplaced on rough hexes but if you actually want to move some there yourself, tough! So who is correct? I thought the Union got some guns up there historically. The old BG map is different of course, with the two summit hexes just wooded, but which is right? Some of you guy's have been there, what's it look like now? [?]

There is now a road running right behind LRT. At the time of the battle there was no easy way to get there and driving a limbered gun onto the hill would have been impossible. They did manage to manhandle a battery of guns onto the hilltop during the battle.

Guns could be allowed to enter the rough hex at a cost of their entire movement allowance. This would require moving the guns adjacent to LRT one turn, moving into the hex the next turn then unlimbering on the third turn or a total of an hour to get a section setup. If you and your opponent agree you can modify the pdt to allow this. I would suggest saving the modified pdt under another name, say union_standard_m.pdt and then saving the scn file with a letter added and place a note in the description of the change to the pdt. Then just use a text editor to change the pdt reference in the new scn file and you can move your guns into rough terrain.

The real inconsistency is that the historical LRT scenario *has* guns on the top, but the player can't put them there (or move those off that are there).

Do a "search" on this topic of getting guns up to LRT...it was a subject of discussion once before...and General Walters is quite correct...if you aren't playing a battle where the guns start up there, you CAN NOT get them up there. I know...it frustrated me too.[:(]
