Hi all,

after a HD crash I go a new PC with Vista and have encountered several problems.. I can install, patch and upgrade the BG games but get an error message "cannot read scenario file" when opening a game.. Any idea of how to fix it? Have tried to set compability but that didn't fix it.

Lars,

I had the same problem when Vista came out back in Feb. None of the old Talonsoft titles are compatible with Vista. (Quite a few gamers in the ACWGC and also the NWC had the same problem).

Matrix Games has re-released the Battleground games and they are compatible with Vista. Also, someone with the Matrix edition can play vs someone with the old Talonsoft editions with no problems. I have already finished one game and started another vs Talonsoft users.

All 5 titles are sold as a single package for $39.99 (or via download for $29.99).

Finally, there is a small glitch in the Matrix games in that some of the scenarios for Antietam and Bull Run aren't accessible when using BG_Start.exe (the normal way). A couple of modules are missing that way. However, the "missing" scenarios are accessible when using BGR.exe or BGN.exe. So those scenarios you would get to in the same manner as if you were playing one of the mods from the Cartography Office.

I gather a patch is forthcoming to fix the above.

Hope my endless rambling has helped.

I'm here to tell ya that Matrix BG and Talonsoft BG games are fully compatible with each other.

I have a cadet in training and he has the Matrix Gettysburg, while I have the old Talonsoft game of Gettysburg.

no issues at all.

Lars,

No problem.

One final note. There is no need to apply any 32 bit patches to the Matrix editions. They are set to go as is. Enjoy!

Dale,

Other than being compatible with Vista is there any reason I should buy these if I already own all the Originals? Also, are the customized unit icons and such compatible with the Matix versions?

Dan,

Vista was the reason I bought them. Thus far, there are no other differences. XP users are all set using the originals.
