Post subject: Who is that officer?

Gentlemen,

There is a board game that was put out by Avalon Hill a few years back called Battle Cry. I'm sure some of you out there either own it, have played it or have heard of it. It's a fun little game with small plastic soldiers, horses and cannon that you fight differant battles with on a game board. My question is this. Who is that fourth confederate officer that is pictured with Lee, Jackson and Stuart[?] I'm ashamed to say that I can not figure out who that is. I'm sure someone out there knows. I'm tired of loosing sleep over it.

I would have to agree that it must be Longstreet - but I've never seen the photos/box you are asking about.

Inquiring minds what to know? But by the box the one's I see are General Lee, Beuaguard, and Sherman. Don't see a fourth.

No, it is definitly not Longstreet. Though why it's not him instead of this other officer is beyond me. The "Mad Prussian" is right about the box. That's the game all right. The officer in question is on the game board and not pictured on the box. He has short light colored hair. He has a mustache, but has no beard. He looks like he is in his thirties. My closest guess is that it's General A.S. Johnson of Shiloh fame.

Hi Paul! [:D]

Below are some links to CSA Generals with their photos.

I have included A.S. Johnson . . . I doubt that this is the Man Ye describe!!![:0]

I have picked out all those "Famous" Generals that I could think of, that would qulify under the description "Light Coloured Hair". Alth' some of them are Dark haired . . . the phototography of the time was reknowned for "lightening" some darker shades . . . also, the picture on the Gameboard may be an early version of the Man's appearance . . growing a Beard during the War????

regards,

Pat.

No. It's not any of those gentlemen either General Carroll. Although, those are some great links to some nice photos. I realy liked the one of General Jubal Early. I have never seen that one of him before. Thanks.
I don't have much computer savy or I would duplicate his photo and put it on the screen. Maybe I can sweet talk the wife into doing it for me. She's pretty good at that stuff.

Yes..that's his picture. He is the second one from the right. He looks a little like Beauregard but I don't think it's him. Maybe I'm wrong and it is. Maybe I'm loosing my eyesight along with my mind. Getting old, you know, will do that.

I'm sure it is my great, great, great grandpappy Jerimiah Groce. Little known because of his habit of scouting the rear areas of his own troops during battle, just to make sure no yanks was sneaking around back.
