Post subject:  Thank You...

Recently, the REAL United States Military Academy at West Point Legal folks sent us an email to stop using "West Point". This led to us in the Union Command going "OH SH!T", and dropping small green apples down our trousers at the thought of federal jail time.

In a time of quick change several folks including Kelly Ross, Matt Perrenod, Ed Stewart and Larry Quick stepped up to transition web pages and rename our venerable instition as the Union Military Academy.

My thanks to all of you for your efforts at keeping me from wearing a bright orange jump suit![:D][:p][:0]

Isn't West Point a geographical location?

I wonder why someone would want to misunderstand historical roleplay.

What if ... a non-US citizen would have been in charge of West Point (our West Point)? They couldn't well sue a European.

bizarro... utterly bizarro. Especially since we aren't talking about a corporation, but the Federal Government.

So, do the CSA types need to expect a letter from VMI?

Show's you the utterly mindless bureaucracy of large institutions. Whether it be business corporations or in this case...a Government Department.
At least we know that the work involved in threatening us kept one of their employee's busy in the office for a couple of days. A pity they didn't take a couple of minutes to see what we are involved with here? I wonder how much confusion they have suffered through receiving e-mails asking about Artillery capture rules and the pro's & cons of movement with skirmishers deployed?

Very sad really. [:(]

How long until the Confederate side of the club has to drop the acronym 'VMI' for the Vicksburg Military Institute due to impending litigation from The Virginia Military Institute?

I would have put the name in lower case. problem solved.

or

"ACWGC West Point" or "Point West"

unless we are selling something with their trademarked logo, or passing ourselves as them, we are in no violation.

So do West Point, Virginia and West Point,Mississippi have to change their web presence? What about West Point Foundry and Machine Company?

Ridiculous

Redonkulous.

How about the "Lower New York Military Academy on the Hudson River That Happens To Be Located Near A Non-Copyrighted Geographical Feature Named West Point"

Be heck on your stationary expenses, though...
