Got to experience my first earthquake this morning. Since nobody was hurt and there was little damage I'll just say it was kinda fun. [:)] I wouldn't want anything more then a 5.2 or whatever it was. It got me thinking though and wondered if any of the civil war historians in the club would know the answer. Were there any reports of earthquakes occuring during the Civil War that were commented on by the troops or newspapers. I know of a few other natural phenomenon like the aurora borealis that occured in Dec 13th. Anybody know?

Dear Boyd,

Felt here in Cincinati, Ohio too, or Middletown; as I was at work sleeping on a desk when it started to shake.

It woke a friend of mine up who lived on the south side of Chicago. I also am told that people in downtown high rises felt it and were a little freaked. I slept like a baby.

Never run across anything in the reading I've done...

I've been in 3 of 5 or greater. The 7.2 we had here in the Seattle area in 2001 was a doozy.

Been in hurricanes (Hugo, Andrew, Iniki) typhoons (Dot in 93 ivo Hong Kong), volcano eruptions (St Helens) and small tornadoes twice. Of the group, earthquakes are the worst feeling, by far...
