I have only just discovered that you can keep track of the VPs in a game as you go! Is it possible for that function to be turned off under optional rules? I ask because I think being able to refer to that chart affects the integrity of the gaming. What General had such specific data available in the ACW. None. You set your troops in motion and have but a general idea of what damage is incurred and meted out and the VP/terrain hexes are visible to you as you fight to provide a measure of the territorial gains being made or not. The temptation with the victory level data available is to start altering your moves/select targets to accrue or avoid points. For example a player seeing himself a few points from a specific victory level might target a cavalry unit that otherwise might not be attacked to try and gain easy points, or pull troops back from harm's way, or assault a VP hex that was otherwise going to be ignored in the general battleplan. Fight the battle, trust your gut instinct, and wait to see the determination at the end of the game. Just a thought.

A higher level of FOW, than we now get.

Quite often, in a game, I will NOT take a VP hex, but leave units in the vicinity, just so that my opponent can't "see" that I have taken the hex. This is particularily important when in the movement to contact portion a meeting engagement or when attempting a flank attack or trying to maneuver toward the enemy rear.

Yes, I like the sound of an optional rule to hide all victory information. Funny nobody has ever thought of it before. It would add to the fog-of-war and surely wouldn't be too much work to implement?

I personally favor the system as is. It's still a game and I'd like to know if my strategy is winning or losing based on the points accumulated. Without knowing who controls the VP hexes, it's almost like a random result at the end.
