Post subject:  Gen. Miller retires from the Union Military Academ

Gentlemen, please join me in a salute to General Ken Miller, who is retiring from the faculty of the Union Military Academy. He will be sorely missed.

Gen. Miller joined the faculty in 2000, ranking among our most senior instructors. Since then, he has trained at least 33 cadets (almost certainly more, since there are significant records gaps), including several that now hold general officer commissions. He is diligent, and as many here already know, very generous with his time.

It is for these reasons that I have recommended to Gen. Laub, and he has agreed, that Gen. Miller should receive the Outstanding Service Medal for his contributions to the Academy, and to the Club.

Thanks for your service, Ken.

Congratulations, Ken! Such commitment and dedication are rare items indeed, and the positive effects of such will probably never be fully realized. It is a distinct privilege to serve with you.

Gen Perrenod,

Thank you for the kind words and the award.

Gentlemen,

I was fortunate enough to draw as my training officer Lt.Gen. R.E.Brooks, who at the time was commander of VI Corps and Assistant Commandant at the Academy. Although I was already experienced with the Battleground games Gen Brooks instilled in me an appreciation for the members of this club who worked to keep it running. Six months later I was asked to form up the new 3/XIX and shortly after that joined the Academy's faculty as an instructor. It has been my privilige to serve as an Instructor at the Academy for almost eight years under three different commandants. In that time I have assisted some forty cadets in getting started in the ACWGC and had my share of those who dropped out without completing their training. Some of those cadets were not here long, others are still here after many years. Some have served the club as division, corps and army commanders while others have been content to just play games. Some I was able to assist at becoming better at playing the games, others taught me that I wasn't as good as I thought I was. Hopefully I provided all of them with some assistance in enjoying all this club has to offer.

I had the honour to complete my training under Gen. Miller's instruction when I first joined the club in the early 2000's. His lessons are still with me as I play today. I wish I could have honoured him by winning more victories during my career.

I salute you Sir!
