Gentlemen,

I have a complaint with the Large epic battle across the Patomic with the major city of Warrenton. Second and last battle in the campaign. This battle is more of a manuevering battle as the Reb tries to get to one of two exit hexes. The Yanks can not defend both in depth, due to all the objective hexes and the exit hexes he is left pinned down on the defensive. The two exits hexes are too far apart to be able to support each other.

My complaint is this, why does the campaign stop here? My opponet successfully out manuevered me, yes, but I only lost about 5000 men. I lost the objective hexes and one Corps was forced off the board. Why does not the battle move on towards Washington? My army was still intact and had plenty of fight in it. Why is there not a Union exit hex like with the Gettysburg Map? or get rid of all the exit hexes, if we can not continue the campaign. Sure would be nice if I could bring the Corps back on the map or select my new Corps arrival hex.

Just thinking.....

Hi,

Haven't got that far in a Gettysburg campaign, but Doug Strickland put together a huge number of scenarios when he designed this game. There is no way all of them could have been adequately playtested. Some are pretty unbalanced, imho, such as 2nd Winchester, but that doesn't make it ahistorical. There are so many different ways to play these games it is very difficult to balance them for every preference. For example, historical Gettysburg might be winnable by the Reb if you use manual DF, but certainly isn't with ADF, due to ammo wastage inherent in ADF.

What I would recommend, if you have the time and inclination, is modify a campaign and the scenarios within it to create something more in sync with what you and your favorite opponents think is more realistic and more balanced given your playing preferences. I have just done this wirh scenarios, and can attest to the difficulty of coming up with something that works. But I found it rewarding nonetheless.

<font face="Georgia"><b>Gentlemen<salute>,</b>

My experience is very short but it's look like each campaign have a different direction.
If I'm right that create very realistic situation, because we are always in the fog.

Unfortunately history it's all but balanced
