Slepsta . . .

Of those you mention, easily Chickamauga offers more balanced fights.

<br />You could always go a different direction and get one of the games covering the whole war. Forge of Freedom, American Civil War, or Gary Grigsby's War Between the States might be a nice change of pace for you.

I don't own Forge of Freedom so I can't talk about it. Of the other two I would say it depends on what type of game you want as I like them both. With AACW you have 2 week turns and a lot more micromanagement to take care of each turn. I consider WBTS with it's monthly turns and less micromanagement to be more of manageable game, but one with a lot of depth. So, if your into really managing things with a lot of detail then I'd go AACW but if you want something that plays quicker with a little less detail but still hard to master then I'd go with WBTS.

If you are looking for the most historical, choose American Civil War.
American Civil War is also considered as one of the best wargame ever done.
it's a little more complex but there is small scenario and an important community able to help.
The AI is also very decent.
I didn't own Gary Grigsby's last title and I will certainly pass on this one.
For me it's difficult to trust an adaptation of a 2ww strategic game engine.

Bill,
I am a huge fan of the AGEOD game. I think it balances strategic level thinking, resource allocation and troops building well with an operational level movement and combat approach. I have not played FOF in at least a year or more but I stopped playing it because there was little operational movement and I could not get into the battle engine.

AGEOD's game, to me, is suberb at modeling the strategic and operational manouvering of the war AND its fairly slow pace (compared to the European conflicts of the era). It is very tense to have a four front war going on! (MO, TN, VA, and the coast!)Also, I like the WEGO approach of AGEOD- 15 day turns means the rebs can use interior lines to suprise the yanks, that the rebs have to guess which approach to NAshville or Corinth or Fredericksburg the yanks will take and guess and anticipate...

I am finding Grigsby's game to be much more micromanaging than AGEOD. Once you get used to the command structure in AGEOD it goes pretty quickly.

I have finished two PBEM games, one as each side, in AGEOD and have two going now as the rebs.

Jim, I'm interested in why you think WBTS requires more micromanaging then AACW. With WBTS you only have to select what you are producing and assign units to leaders where as in AACW you've got to do the same but you have to create the reinforcements, replacements, replacement locomotives, river transports, plus manage loyalties in the states, and make political decisions, etc. I think both games have a steep learning curve but I do think AACW has more to micromanage.

Mark,
something about the leaders is hard for me to get my head around, I prefer Ageod's system better (although the railraod fixing is annoying).

Well if there is anything I can help with then just ask. Have you gone through the video tutorials?

I have done all the video's (which are great) and am getting into it. It is merely a case of how my brain works... Both games have a decent amount of micromanaging and I think AGEOD matches mine better.

But I am getting the hang of the GRigsby game and totally recommend it...

Well, I've taken note of the comments here and after counting out my pennies!...decided to go for Atlanta......and Chickamauga.

I was offered a very tempting '5 for 3' deal, but have gone back to the online NWS store again with my custom.

As long as I can manage to purchase them faster than they can release them...I should be o.k. [;)] What next? 'Campaign Fredericksburg'?
