Post subject:  Which one(s) next?

I now own four(4) of the HPS Civil war battles series. Corinth, Gettysburg, Peninsula and Antietam. I guess I will slowly purhase the others until I have them all...but, can anyone suggest which one I should buy next? I've never been able to find any player reviews of the games and I would trust the opinions of the club members over which ones offer the best variety of scenarios (especially for PBEM purposes)

A tough question.

Atlanta might be a good one for your next game.

Of course, if you get 15 answers to this question, you will most likely get 15 different answers.[:D]

I'd agree with Ernie and also suggest Shiloh. You couldn't go wrong, imho, either way.

In my opinion they are all equally good and they are all eventually patched up to the same standard so I'd say pick the one that interests you most and go that route rather then worrying about which has the most or best scenarios.

I can't agree that all of the titles are equal. "Franklin" in my opinion is definitely a 'weak disk' and wouldn't recommend it. The 1864 campaign for the Confederates at that point is completely lost and I don't understand why it was even picked as an HPS title.

The only reason I can think of was that it was an early disk in the series when the whole campaign idea was still being worked out as viable. Thus a smaller and more workable campaign was started.

I can understand fully why "Gettysburg" or one of the major campaigns in the east was not chosen as the first disk in the series. Very large campaigns with lots of variables and possible outcomes.

I would recommend "Peninsula". In fact it is still my favourite disk. You have two armies of about equal size and quality vying for the Capital of the Confederacy. Interesting terrain too.

I know we all have our tastes but I like the Franklin game. I've played it quite a bit. Anyway, Ned was right, you'll not go wrong no matter which game(s) you choose.

Jim,

As a member of the AoC surely it has to be Chickamauga and Atlanta doesn't it?[;)]

It depends on what you like.

Shiloh, Atlanta and Chickamagua are good to me becuase they offer a variety of battle sized and situation. I have playes Shiloh the most so I would recommend it the most, then Chickamagua, then Atlanta. Ozarks is also a blast because it has so many battles. Most of them are pretty small but is has a few larger ones and lots of variety and three totally different campaigns.

Franklin and Vicksburg are the least interesting to me. I disliked Franklin at first but I got a lot of play out of it. Vicksburg has some interesting stuff but it lacks some of the variety of the other games. But they both still offer a variety of battle sized and situation.

Gents,

Of the titles Ozark, Shiloh, Antietam, Atlanta, Chickamauga, and Vicksburg, which would you say offers the most fair fight between the two combatants?

You could always go a different direction and get one of the games covering the whole war. Forge of Freedom, American Civil War, or Gary Grigsby's War Between the States might be a nice change of pace for you.
