Good day gents, I'm in battle #4 of the campaign. Unfortunately in the first scn.one of my div.commanders was wounded. What I don't understand is in the current scn.(#4) I don't appear to have a div.commander for this scn. shouldn't one the brigadiers been promoted with the subsuquent apperance of the omnipresent Col.Anonymous to take charge of a brigade. Col.John Lytwak Div. Commander 2nd Cav.Div XVI AoT |

It would be for Rich W to answer this, but I'd imagine that if the Division Commander wasn't placed on map to begin with, the replacement also wouldn't show. For instance, if the historical Division Commander missed the battle because he was felled with a terrible case of gout, he's just not put on the map, and the replacement wouldnt' show either (even if historically there is no reason he couldn't). Gentleman thanks for your replies......in response to Gen.McClellan's reply I take it there are scn.with no div.commander on the field? I can't ever recall coming across that in any of my numerous games played. Of course in my current scn. I have massive disruptions in the div.in question which is faced with having to attack entreched rebels behind abatis!! just another reason why WAR IS HELL Col.John Lytwak Div. It certainly can happen. For instance, in my current Antietam campaign General King is absent from the small fight the day before 2nd Bull Run (blanking on the name), because he historically wasn't there. Major General Gary McClellan 1st Division, XXIII Corps AoO,USA |

To clarify, please send problems to Support at hpssims.com - not to me personally. This will ensure someone gets it from the company, even if I'm away for a while. This is the "official" path for support. LGen. Hamilton II Corps ANV, CSA |

Gen.Hamilton sir, You won't even adress this issue for a "hot sandwich" as stated below....I'll even throw in some fine Pennslyvania rye whiskey!! It didn't occur to me check the battle from the main scn.index.I'll see if my absent Gen.is in the OOB there. That may answer the question. I was working under the assumption that Col.Peters stated that leader replacement at the div.level was automatic in HPS as it had been in the TS games. But perhaps this is not the case? It would certainly be a pertinent piece of info to be aware of esp.in camapign's. Col.John Lytwak Div. Commander 2nd Cav.Div XVI AoT |

I think the bottom line we can all learn from here is to not let any officers ever become casuatlies... just in case! [:D] Regards, Lt. Gen. Alan Lynn CSA Chief of Staff 3rd Bgde, 3rd Cav Div, II Corps, AoA God Bless <>< |

Gen.Lynn, You would appear to be correct sir!! Esp.in a campaign Shiloh as far as I can tell there doesn't appear to be any "field promotion/ leader replacement occuring..once there gone it looks like your S.O.L at least in HPS Shiloh..in cmpn.Penisula however there is leader replacement as I had as a div.commander that was replaced by one of his brigadiers and this was carried into the next scn. Campaign Shiloh works the same as any in the ACW series. A leader loss will result in a field promotion. Leader loses will also carry over in a campaign situation As for your problem, I still haven't received a file from HPS support. Lt. Col. Col.Walker, My general is definitely MIA..he was never replaced..I checked the scn.index & found he was on OOB of the individual scn.(that is used in the cmpgn.) I sent a copy of the file in qs. to Rich Hamilton at HPS support...hopefully they can drop him into the current scn. by re-con. balloon as his div. is of course having some negative C&C issues in his absence!!! I have it now. I will need to run a test tonight. Is this a carryover battle from Fort Henry? So during the FH battle McClernard was lost? Lt. Col. Richard Walker I Corps Army of the Mississippi 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division "Defenders of Tennessee" |

Sorry for the delay. After working with John, we have determined the problem. If leader A is lost and replaced by leader B, and if leader B does not exist in the next battle, then there can be no carryover. To my knowledge, this is the first time we've seen this problem. Or at least seen it reported. The problem is that battles in Campaign Shiloh a spread out and so there are many OOBs. Some battles only use certain leaders. There may be a solution, but it won't come out for a few months. Lt. Col. Richard Walker I Corps Army of the Mississippi 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division "Defenders of Tennessee" |

I saw this when playing a Campaign of Corinth. In one battle Little was lost and replaced by Herbert. In the next battle, an attack on Corinth, Herbert was back commanding his brigade and there was no commander for Little's Division. I think there is some problem with Division Commanders who are replaced in some previous battle. |
