If opposing forces are adjacent to brestworks do both receive the benifit. I am playing 2nd Manassas and I entrenched in the woods along the railroad cut and the Yanks have move next to my works and I can't seem to hit anyone and I mean no one. I fired 4 Napoleons at an adjacent target and had "no effect" Of course the Yanks fired back an killed one of my crews.

No. I believe that breastworks are built within the hex and so only the constructing side receives the benefit? You can build breastworks on a hexside from both sides?

Only the unit in the hex with breastworks receives a benifit.

Picture 125 yard wide hexes while picturing the Sunken Road (a ready made breastwork) at Fredericksburg. The CSA was right up next to the stone wall while the USA advanced to maybe within 30-40 yards. For both to benifit the range would have to be maybe a yard, a scale not represented in the system.

Make sure your artillery boys know that when you call for "grape shot" you're not talking about fruit. [:D]

Are the Yank units in question behind the embankment? If so, they might be getting a 40% woods reduction and another 40% (?) for the embankment, which would make them nearly unhittable.
