I've always been a curious fellow. If any of you have time to answer the following, I for one would find it tremendously interesting.

1. Generally, do you play in 2D or 3D?

2. What's the longest battle you've fought, in turns?

3. Do you play in single phase, or multi-phases? Answer as a percentage for each.

4. How many ACW games do you usually have going at once?

5. Do you play multi-player regularly?

6. Preference in Optional Rules included? Excluded?

7. What year did you join this club?

8. How many of the 10 HPS Civil War disks do you have?

9. Favorite HPS Civil War disk? Least favorite?

10. What's the ONE thing you'd have John Tiller change/fix. ONE.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
Brig Gen Dwight McBride

1. Generally, do you play in 2D or 3D?

I play mostly in 3D zoom out, but will switch to the various 2D options regularly. Almost never use 3D zoom in.

2. What's the longest battle you've fought, in turns?

149 turn BG Gettysburg Norris-Frost variant.

3. Do you play in single phase, or multi-phases? Answer as a percentage for each.

I play 99% of games in phases as I think the single turn system still has many flaws, though I am giving the new Antietam single turn with option melee rule a try. I still don't like the end result of the AI defensive fire in single turn, however.

4. How many ACW games do you usually have going at once?
Maybe 5 or so?

5. Do you play multi-player regularly?
No, very rarely.

6. Preference in Optional Rules included? Excluded?
I generally am fine with all optional rules.

7. What year did you join this club?
1998, then a brief hiatus during college, then back again around 2003

8. How many of the 10 HPS Civil War disks do you have?
All of them.

9. Favorite HPS Civil War disk? Least favorite?

Favorite: Chickamauga, I think, overall, Peninsula close second
Least favorite: Gettysburg

10. What's the ONE thing you'd have John Tiller change/fix. ONE.

Fix the artillery crew kills, even if only by bumping the percentage likelihood of a kill up from 5% to something more realistic. Crews and one step gun losses would be best.

1. Generally, do you play in 2D or 3D?
2d almost exclusively. Will pop into 3D to check the terrain if I'm not sure or to check a trail but Bill's mod may eliminate that.
2. What's the longest battle you've fought, in turns?
I'm not sure but I'm sure I've played some over 100
3. Do you play in single phase, or multi-phases? Answer as a percentage for each.
Single phase. Hate the fact that troops can pop in and out of LOS/fire in multiphase.
4. How many ACW games do you usually have going at once?
Between competitive, Union Military Academy training and Gamesquad usually 7 or 8
5. Do you play multi-player regularly?
No, haven't done one in several years.
6. Preference in Optional Rules included? Excluded?
Quality factors off, rout limiting off with flank morale modifier on, most others on
7. What year did you join this club?
2001
8. How many of the 10 HPS Civil War disks do you have?
all of them
9. Favorite HPS Civil War disk? Least favorite?
Gettysburg with Atlanta a close second. If I had to pick a least favorite I'd say Franklin.
10. What's the ONE thing you'd have John Tiller change/fix. ONE.
I'd make defensive fire stronger. I think the game as is favors the player on the offensive and that just isn't right

Sir,

My Responses:
1. Generally, do you play in 2D or 3D?

3D Zoom out mode, but I use Roff Hall's graphics, I like them a lot better.

2. What's the longest battle you've fought, in turns?

213 HPS Gettysburg - Trouble along the way North.

3. Do you play in single phase, or multi-phases? Answer as a percentage for each.

90% Multi-phase Play all single opponent, 10% Single phase all Multi-player.

4. How many ACW games do you usually have going at once?

Any where from 7 to 12

5. Do you play multi-player regularly?

Yes When my one HPS or one TS multi-player ends I start another one.

6. Preference in Optional Rules included? Excluded?

I will not use the Isolation Rule or Density Modifier Rule.
I preferr not to use the two fire and melee optional tables as I like the possibility of an extreem result.
Everything else is usually On.

7. What year did you join this club?

May 2004

8. How many of the 10 HPS Civil War disks do you have?

I have five of them (Gettysburg, Franklin, Ozark, Corinth, and Shiloh) I would Like to Buy Chickamauga and Antietem, but I am waiting until I can get them cheeper.

9. Favorite HPS Civil War disk? Least favorite?

Gettysburg, I use to like Shiloh the most until they forced the weather feature into the game.

10. What's the ONE thing you'd have John Tiller change/fix. ONE.

Get rid of the weather feature in Shiloh and make it optional.

" BTW, Lt gen Joseph C. Mishurda, the weather feature wasn't added to Shiloh, it was always there from the beginning. But(if I can remember) I will create variants so the non-weather versions exist."
Sir, All I know I never saw the scenario in my campaigns until after the upgrade then I could not avoid it and it changed the play of the Campaign significantly.

1. Generally, do you play in 2D or 3D?
Being an old boardgame I play mostly in 2D using 3D only to check ZOC in situations where I don't have a continous line.

2. What's the longest battle you've fought, in turns?
My longest single battle so far was 101 turns. I moderated an MP game that went 146 turns.

3. Do you play in single phase, or multi-phases? Answer as a percentage for each.
I play almost all of my individual games in single phase mode, so say 95% and it's the only way I've played MP games.

4. How many ACW games do you usually have going at once?
I've cut back a bit on my gaming due to time constraints so I normally only have 2-3 ACW games going and 2-3 in other clubs.

5. Do you play multi-player regularly?
I've played a few PBEM MP games, currently have one going. I like playing online MP games having played them at the Tiller Cons and with some friends using my home network.

6. Preference in Optional Rules included? Excluded?
Unless my opponent asks for others I normally play all options except
Manual Defensive Fire
Rout Limiting
Optional Fire and Melee Results
Higher Fatigue Recovery
Isolation
Optional Melee Resolution

7. What year did you join this club?
I entered the Union Academy in Nov 1999

8. How many of the 10 HPS Civil War disks do you have?
All

9. Favorite HPS Civil War disk? Least favorite?
Current favorite would be Chickamaugua.
Least favorite would probably be Ozark, battles are too small for me.

10. What's the ONE thing you'd have John Tiller change/fix.
Most of my complaints about the original game engine have been addressed over the past few upgrades and I understand the crew kill problem is being addressed so I would like to see some kind of built in ammo supply for the guns so that they had to be pulled out of the line to resupply.

Put in Multi-player functionality for PBEM to automate tracking, control, etc. Similar to what is in the LAN moduel. It would make MP PBEM games a lot better.

<b><font color="red">I agree with Ernie and Rich right before me. Since I play mostly multiplayer games, I would like to see the ability to assign troops (by Division or Corps commander) to individual players. You could then only move only those units, and when you clicked on the "next move" or "next fire" button, the game would only cycle through your units.
Having said that, from someone who tried and found it impossible to keep up with big board games back in the '70s (Mom![:0] You swept under the bed again!?! You messed up a game we had stored under there that has been ongoing for 6 weeks!!![xx(]), a great big thank you to JT, Rich H, Rich W, and everyone else that has made the games we have now possible. 1. Generally, do you play in 2D or 3D?
2D

2. What's the longest battle you've fought, in turns?
Ken's last moderated game. Whatever 3 days works out to be.

3. Do you play in single phase, or multi-phases? Answer as a percentage for each.
Single

4. How many ACW games do you usually have going at once?
Generally 2

5. Do you play multi-player regularly?
More MP then not. Right now it's 2 MP and zero single

6. Preference in Optional Rules included? Excluded?
All

7. What year did you join this club?
1997

8. How many of the 10 HPS Civil War disks do you have?
I think 5

9. Favorite HPS Civil War disk? Least favorite?
No favorite or least favorite

10. What's the ONE thing you'd have John Tiller change/fix.

The deplorable current ZOC setup. Right now a max fatigue, leaderless, "E" quality 25 man unit can stop three 1000 man, "A" quality, zero fatigue units dead in their tracks. At least for 20 minutes allowing another 25 man unit to do the same on the next turn. The setup also leads to the completly ahistorical "Stack in every other hex" deployment.

I know Rich mentioned a while back about maybe making changes so small units couldn't do that but that but much better for a total fix and adopt the old 1990's "World at War" setup where ZOC depended on defending unit size, morale, fatigue and that was compared to approaching unit size, morale, fatigue and resulted in a complete stop, a loss of so many movement points or nothing at all.
