Believe it or not I finally bit the bullet and changed my desktop to 1024 x 768 in order to be able to run Photoshop Elements. I don't see well and I always kept it at 800 x 600 because I liked the larger images when playing HPS and other games.

I notice that Combat Mission from Battlefront still opens in 800 X 600 despite the desktop being set 1024 X 768,and the AGEOD game with play in 1024 X 768 even if the desktop is 800 x 600...CM defaults to it and AGEOD actually lets you select whatever rez you wish. However the HPS games have much smaller graphics now in terms of both the units, 3D images and typeface. And I don't find a "tool" or "choice" anywhere in the HPS games that give that option. So...I wondered if there is a way (without switching the desktop each time I open HPS) to set the HPS game to play in 800 X 600.

I thinik I know that the answer is most likely NO but I also know there are some very tricky computer lads out there and I thought I would take a shot and ask.

It does occur to me that I could do the opposite and just change the desktop back and only change over when I use the Photoshop Elements program which will be no where near as frequently as playing the HPS games. Just a nuisance to keep switching but it is hard for me to see the smaller icons.

Thanks.

What Rich said, but there is a freeware program called Display Changer ( http://www.soft32.com/download_10157.html )

The publisher's site, 12Noon, shows this example of how to use it:

quote:
#

If you have an application that requires certain display settings (e.g., many children's programs require 640x480x256 colors), you can modify that program's shortcut to something like this:

dc.exe -width=640 -height=480 -depth=8 -refresh=72 "c:\Program Files\Hasbro\Freddi.exe"

This shortcut will change to VGA resolution, run freddi.exe, and then restore the original display settings when freddi.exe stops running. If you don't specify a program, it will just change the settings for you (and not restore them).

The "8" represents an 8-bit color depth or 256 colors. "4" is 16 colors; "16" for 16-bit; "24" for 24-bit; "32" for 32-bit.

I think it was named Resolution Changer or something similar a while back.

When you switched the display size did you change your font size to large (or extra large)? It might not help with HPS but will with the vision thing.[:p]
