So since a Mac is out of my price range for what I need (an extra $1,000), it looks like I'm stuck with Windows. Question is to stick with XP by attempting to build a new PC myself or buy one retail that likely will have Vista on it. Any problems with running the HPS games on Vista?

Any other Vista comments are most welcomed as well.

Alan, there is a help item at the HPS website for Vista users, it has something to do with the path for the games when you download them for the first time. Here is the link: http://www.hpssims.com/vistahelp.htm

Thanks. I'll bookmark that just in case. Still deciding if Vista will work for me or not (making sure my other key programs are compatible).

Alan,

I have VISTA and have had no issues running the games as long as you follow the recommendations on the HPS sites. Specifically DO NOT install the games to the Program Group.

VISTA is somewhat bloated with unneeded software and consumes a lot of resources. If you are ordering a fairly good system with at least 2GB of RAM it will perform fine. If you want to go light on the hardware then XP would be bettter I think. There will come a day in the not so distant future when MS will inform the world they no longer support XP as they always do.

I think I am actually going to bite the bullet and get an iMac instead and abandon Microsoft altogether, lol. If nothing else, Apple's commercials kick MS in the behind:

"I'm a pizza box..."
"I banish you... you are banished."

Hilarious. :)

After pricing everything out I can get a refurbed iMac and upgrade to 4GB RAM myself for only about $90 more than it would cost to build a compirable PC system with a 20 inch flatscreen LCD monitor... and all of my friends that have Mac's love them.

Since you are getting 4GB of RAM you should be fine with the MAC even with extra overhead of running MS virtually inside of Leopard. I've heard nothing but good things about MAC's. Please let us know how the games perform for you. I believe you are blazing a new trail here.[:D]
