Post subject:  Capture of Supply Wagons

Is there a minimum of men needed to capture supply wagons? I am playing a game and pursued and killed off a unit of 1 man mainly because I didn't want him marauding around in my rear chasing my supply wagons. After I did it, I thought, no matter how bad the troops assigned to the supply wagons, surely 1 man couldn't capture them, but in these games I don't know. Anyone know?

I think, in most cases, the supply melee is an overrun. I do not think the supply wagons have an defensive value.

Historically, units were detached to protect the wagons. Often, these units were substantial. One reason Pickett's Division wasn't available on the second day at Gettysburg was train guard duty. And one of Pemberton's largest brigades at Champion's Hill never got engaged because they were guarding the wagons. Doesn't happen in the game because your scouts on a mountain top twenty miles away can immediately report an enemy threat in the area. Giving wagons a nominal "crew" of perhaps ten men might not be a bad idea, though. I suspect the lone survivor of a unit behind enemy lines would be more interested in surrendering to the first enemy he came to than seizing a supply train.

But to answer your question, Ernie is right; as it stands even one guy can capture a supply train.
