Gentlemen

I do solemnly declare that I shall never EVER lose another cavalry regiment as long as God grants me breath to play these games. To my brothers in arms in the Army of Alabama I can only apologize for my recent failure in this regard and that I will willingly resign my commission if I have contributed to a tournament loss. My cavalry will never roam free again. Will never stray from infantry and artillery support and will never contribute to my opponents VP tally to such an extent again.

Sounds to me like you have learned a lesson not soon to be repeated, your resignation would never be accepted for such an experience, both humbling and enlightening.

Gen Laub Sir, here is the Union sides response to poor Col Blair's frustration. I believe that we are talking about the AoC vs AoA tournament game between myself and Col Blair. I would like to first point out to Col Peters that it was no minor unit ZOC surrounding that caused the Rebels to lose 1400+ elite cavalry from 3 regiments. The smallest Union force used was a 150 man cavalry unit. Col Blair had already sighted a brigade of Union Infantry down south of his position with a big 500 man cavaly regiment and then sent two other large regiments of horse to investigate. Meanwhile I was maneuvering about a thousand horse of my own down from the northeast. Col Blair miscalculated how far my infantry could march from the first sighting. He moved them down south to within 3 hexes of my infantry without sighting them. This allowed my 2000+ infantry in 4 regiments to completely block all movement west, south and east while my cavalry cameup behind him and cut off retreat to the north. The Rebel horse was too far out in front of the rest of the infantry for any support to come up in time to help out. One Rebel cavalry unit tried to retreat down a secondary road through some woods but ran smack into two brigades or Union infantry marching to the front. It was a blood bath. Don't be too discouraged Col Blair, I have captured/killed quite a bit of Rebel horse in my first year of play. Like Gen Weir says, learn from your mistakes. This lesson ought to stick around for awhile.

Col Blair,

Don't feel bad. General John Hunt Morgan lost most of two brigades of fine Kentucky cavalry north of the Ohio River in July 1863, along with himself. And don't make solemn declarations that limit your options. There may come a time when you have to sacrifice a cavalry regiment for the good of the Army, and I wouldn't want you to hesitate.
