The rules for damaging bridges are a little vague as to the procedure for accomplishing the task. I realize it says you can fire artillery or perform melee to damage a bridge. What is the exact procedure for performing melee against a bridge. I have tried it and I'm guessing I'm doing something incorrectly as I have not succeeded in damaging the bridge. A little clarification on this would be greatly appreciated.

The usual procedure of drag and drop doesn't work on bridges. During the melee phase you must right click on the bridge. This should mark it with the melee target symbol. Then you select the unit that is going to melee it and use the menu item for "Add" under the "Melee" drop down menu to add the unit to the attack. I don't have the game open so the text on these might be slightly different.

Also, if memory serves, only one unit can melee a bridge so pick the biggest you have. I don't know why they made that restriction.

Hi, General,

You are right about the procedure. Just wanted to point out that all the adjacent units in a stack can attack the bridge; they just have to do it one melee at a time.

Or if no melee phase.

You select the hex the bridge is on, go up to the menu for melee and select "Begin melee" and then select a unit to "Add" to melee. Then execute melee and do again for more adjacent units.

Frontage restrictions I guess. The same reason as why only one unit at a time can occupy a bridge.

There's no restriction on how many units can melee a bridge, as long as they're in the same appropriate hex.

What is the appropriate hex to melee a bridge from?

Vis a vis distance and facing of meleeing unit.

Same hex? Adjacent hex in very front facing?

either end of the bridge hex

Vis a vis distance and facing of meleeing unit.

adjacent to and facing the bridge hex you are trying to destroy. Other restrictions are that you can't have moved, fired or meleed in that player turn. The unit must also be in good order.

It is interesting to note that when you are repairing a bridge, the repairing unit must be in column (I assume mounted for cavalry), but to destroy a bridge formation doesn't matter.
